I read some spoilers and my goodness. If you are here for a strong female lead who will change and grow to be a strong, invincible lady then this manga is not for you. However, if you are here for the emotional roller coaster, spiked blood pressure, angst and inner turmoil then you have found the right manga my friend.
if you have ever read "To help you understand/What It Means to be You" and loved it....then this is for you. the emotional roller coaster, anger, angst, pity and tears I invested in that manga.... ヽ(TДT)ﾉ I got a good cry out of it honestly
as feared, our ml is the beautiful trash of a man we have seen exhibited before us. he's beautiful and he sucks. he's got a couple loose screws, aint in touch with his emotions, and likes to push the fl and goad her for a reaction. all in all, he's as much of a douche bag as the guy from the novel mentioned above. but they end up together so we're in for the ride ┑(￣Д ￣")┍
as for our fl....if I can fundraise a backbone for her I would! I desperately want to! now, her experiences has shaped her so she's definitely on the demure side, however, she does not change much even as we progress. SO, don't expect her to go all badass. if you are here for some tears and angst, then you're at the right place. Just grab a tissue and strap in for the emotions. this girl will make you sypathize, pity and want to scream for and at her.
so if you are ready for all of the above then strap in tight cause there's a lot coming!

The one with memories of the game.
She was once really shy and introverted but has since developed a loud and extroverted personality since 'awakening'.
She's not a complete bad girl but is a little insane.
She disappears in the story for a bit to study abroad.
Loves Katsuragi but is rejected by him at the end of the story.
Becomes a little more sane at the end after realizing the otome she 'remembered' about might just be a delusion
Develops a otome game based on school experience and sends the beta version to Reiko to play. Reiko gets really into the game.

During a landslide when Reiko tried to reach for Landlord and run, he slapped her hand away. He then grabbed landlord's land and ranway. They sustained terrible injuries because their escape route was terrible.
Reiko fake forgives him on account of landlord's feelings and that he was going to die soon.
Reiko convinced the two to get married by telling them they have waited long enough and that they should seize the chance. However, in reality Reiko just wanted to remain connected to landlord after his death.
Thought to have cancer but did not go to the hospital because of trauma (His father was a great man who invested a lot into hospitals and healthcare. He didn't want to go hospital and be reminded he wasn't as great?). Eventually he went after landlord convinced him to go. Turned out he didn't have cancer and it was some kind of pancreatic disorder.
Reiko gets revenge on him by casting a bad light on him in landlords eyes. In order to salvage his image, he is forced to bend to Reiko's will. Reiko is constantly trying to steal landlords love and attention.
Eventually shapes up as a father a little bit. Saves MC from death after a scumbag (Miu's brother-in-law) almost kills her. He manages to both apologize and insult MC at the same time after saving her. He says sorry and that it's his fault for causing her to live in a environment that completely distorted her common sense.
He like eating the food MC makes but won't admit it. he told landlord it reminds him of the meals he ate as a kid.
He confesses to MC that he's jealous of her. He reveals that he's envious that the MC not only inherited his father's intelligence but also his mother's talent for piano.
Relationship w/ MC: Antagonistic → Parent-Child (though they're constantly fighting and bickering for landlord's attention)
Wow, Japanese mangas really want to physically punch you in the stomach when you start to get any level of hope for the MC’s change of luck… like, SIKE! YOU thought these UNNECESSARY levels/layers of trauma AND misfortune was all!!! Think AGAIN! To also give us a DOORMAT of a Main Character too… I did hear that kids that were neglected(from especially stimuli, touch, love/affection) tend to space/black out for long periods of time out of habit. The MC was really giving that to me, that I started to question that caregiver for a while.
Read another similar manga with a horror story game setting and loved it so I thought I would like this. But I really can't get into this one and considering dropping it cause it's super slow and boring right now. It's been 18 chapters and it's basically mc (hilda) going this is a game and trying to survive as a character. There's not much development towards the story, I think they're kinda still building it up? But it's boring. Right now as the main character, Hilda isn't that interesting of a character. She's funny and has comedic moments but character wise it's kinda flat and predictable? The dynamic with the young master also doesn't make sense. She's scared but then she has these bursts of unfounded courage backed up by the thought that this is a game and she can restart anytime. It's an intriguing dynamic but not really enough to hook me in?

I definitely agree, a while ago, I dropped because I didn’t like Hilda or even the progression like you said. But I picked it up again because I saw that s1 finished and decided to get caught up. Let me tell you, it’s really good. Like really good, I realllyyy loved it. It’s definitely a slow burn without any tension but towards the end, slowly but surely they are progressingggg! So in my opinion, I would leave it for now and wait for s2 to read it in one sitting (or however you want) because it’s actually good
Thank you for your insight - will give it another chance since you had a similar experience but said it got better! I think I'll take your advice and wait for season 2 to start and then binge read it in one go so that I won't get frustrated by the lack of development (づ￣ ³￣)づ
So there's a couple similar mangas where it's all based in a horror game setting but these are the ones that I remember and check in for new chapters.
- Confined Together with the Horror Game’s Male Lead : fl is a maid and ml comes into the haunted mansion and must find out the "truth" of the mansion to leave. Fl is controlled by the game setting sometimes to carry out roles and also has the dashboard thing that gives her instructions. Beautiful art and faster in pace. Get's you hooked at the get go but only 20+ chapters rn.
- I’m a Supporting Role in a Horror Game, Don’t Kill Me : fl is the tutor and ml is probably the duke. Killer is unknown tho fl has suspicions. She's just trying to survive the game as she is suppose to be the next victim if the game carries out as intended.

That cute fluffy cat reminds me of a cat from another manga! I don't remember which one but there was a scene of a cat about to pounce on the mc who turned into a small animal and this cat looks really similar to that one! If anyone knows the manga please share the name!
