First, you should definitely try talking to him a bit more. Even little by little, gradually getting closer every day could be good. I can't remember my first manga, but I think my first anime was Kiki's Delivery Service or Spirited Away? One of the old Studio Ghibli movies. And then my first anime series was Sailor Moon which I watched when I was in around 2nd or 3rd grade? And then I never really watched anything else until about 6th or 7th grade when I watched Tokyo Ghoul.   1 reply
