The emperor is dead since leopold was gone for a while his brother will make a rumor that it was him who did it so he must choose he doesnt have a choice since he was deposed and was seen as a slave no one will believe him.. I think there was something along the line now that his brother is the emperor there is no way against him.... Since he was still his brother he doesnt think that it is right to just end leopolds life that way(crazyy) thats why he was given a chance to start a new life 1. Merchants concubine 2. Become dragons companion 3. He could be with his childhood sweetheart and be a duchess but he said "i have no interest in becoming a merchants pet... i dont want to become a demons breeding tool... I dont want to cause trouble for Ian.... I choose you Roderick" .... Also his brother was thinking what about an heir but thats where dmitri comes in meaning theyll make him pregnant in the future... (Ps he already laid eggs)
