Any one who've read the novel knows how crazy in love hc was with xl the author herself said due to Chinese censorship she couldn't add as much smut as mdzs but yh I agree bcuz of it more focus was on their feelings rather than just action which made it so special that's why they are still my no 1 fav couple (づ￣ ³￣)づ

U see simply jerking off takes away the gravity of hua cheng's complicated and deep feelings that he have for xie lian. He punished himself for having sexual thoughts and fantasies until he was givwn the green signal from xie lian and could act upon that. So assuming that he freely fapped to his statues for 800 years takes away this very unique character of hua cheng which sets him apart from any other mc.
