The story seems to be confusing for some people and I can understand why, the translation is off only because it’s not a grammatically accurate translation which isn’t the translators fault since languages are translated differently from native to english. AnywayI feel like I understood this somewhat correctly. Kana is a somewhat possessive ML (Albeit a crappy one) who is in love with Naho (MC). Kanas actions are confusing and misleading because it’s seen from Nahos pov and but this is a classic case of unreliable narrator, he’s a high school boy so it’s assumed that he just automatically gains low self esteem because of his contstant overthinking. His sudden low self esteem is caused by one of kanas “friends” (I think it was the blondie?). During the incidents like him calling Naho average, him separating Naho from Aoi and his other friends, and all his little moments of disregarding and demeaning Naho are all part of that classic tactic that all crazy seme bitches use. He tries to distract and push away any interests his friends have of Naho, they know Naho is Kanas friend and so I assume they naturally became curious (Also because Naho is cute? But I’ll get into that later). He wants Naho to himself, to Kana Naho is cute, he adores him and so much so he wants only Naho to be cute to him. It’s a bit hard to understand because the language and specific words they use are unclear probably because the words that would have delivered the proper message of his intentions were lost in the google translate machine (NOT TRANSLATORS FAULT). Anyway, the reason he calls him average clearly shows how he tries to make Naho seem not desirable and such so he could have Naho to himself and I can only assume that he himself emotionally manipulates Naho so that when he does praise Naho by calling him cute it will have a bigger impact. For example, after isolating and manipulating the narrative that Naho is not cute and not attractive(?) and after “ignoring” him for a few days he will say things of praise to Naho like “You’re so cute” or talk about how cute or how adorable he is. This shows how he full on manipulates Naho but I can only assume (Once again ) that this backfires badly because of Naho overhearing him calling him average. We see in ONE scene where Naho does have bed head and does not acknowledge it for once and Kana notices, he thinks about how cute it is and this shows how Kana DOES like Naho, how clumsy he is and that weird trope of being cute for waking up late or wtvr (I don’t understand why that’s a cute thing but it’s a common trope
