They’re not good people, that’s the point. Everyone is doing the best they can within their situations. Even that psycho Yohan. He’s arrogant, lacks any kind of empathy, and is cruel because he has the power and influence to do so, but even he has reasons to do what he does. Even if those reasons are not societally acceptable ones. I think part of what makes this story so great is that the author doesn’t hold back on their darker qualities. I love that we get to see these characters at their ugliest and somehow still find ourselves rooting for a happy ending.
All that being said, it’s also completely ok if this kind of story isn’t your cup of tea. Some days, I can’t with the angsty BS, some days I eat it up. Lol. But yeah, I don’t think you’re supposed to like the characters per se.
