Honestly, I'd talk to the teacher and explain the situation. They may come up with the solution that you haven't thought of - something like, maybe film a video of the presentation and submit it.
Most adults (teachers are likely normal adults) will help when asked. Unless they're completely morally bankrupt. reply
Is the actual question of choosing value of human life that is unrelated to you over another animal life that's dependent on you?
Your dog/cat/pet depends on you, so you better save them. It's your duty.
If you can save a human life, then yes, you should. But your duties and responsibilities come first, even if they are an animal's life. reply
I mean, the situation you described sounds like straight up abusive behavior, not "i don't want kids" type of people's behavior. I bet these people harm/hate animals, too.
