Well, yeah, but the actual manga won't be posted here until the beginning of July! Oops - just noticed I wrote "End of July", instead of "Early" - yaoi brain!

Yes, that would be too long. Thanks for catching it, the comment might have elicited a bit of angst over the three month gap if you had not mentioned it ... hahahaha!

It can discourage certain behaviors, like if someone is being obnoxious about updates..

one of the most annoying things for me is when people complain/urge about intimacy between characters when it's completely up to the author how the story develops, hopefully people will stop after their comments get marked as annoying

Tokidoki, from the looks of it it wasn't random, but seems most likely to have been directed towards a particular person whose posting of new threads over other minutes was becoming rather annoying to a great any people. Also, said person's reaction/attitude/arrogance in a recent response seems to have ruffled a few feathers as of late from the looks of it. But that's only a guess. *shrugs*

But by definition and name the "annoying" button is exactly that. To express that one finds a post annoying. Like, as name mentioned, people whining about update length or frequency. Or people posting "Do you know this manga?" threads on 30 different boards here, including Viewfinder, because they can't be bothered to do so on the main page (and that's mostly the same person). Or said person mentioned above for the reason's above.

I have only ever used the button once here, and that was on some homophobe slur. But I can fully understand that in the cases mentioned above people find post and people's attitude towards others here annoying and execute their right to express that.

I too noticed what you were talking about. I think that the fact that more than five people (eleven people at least, last time I checked) resorted to thumbing down the comments of one particular user, was something which could have been easily predicted.
Waiting eagerly for an update is a situation which creates tension so if a particular fan sees the comments and topics of the same user spread everywhere, the inevitable will come: pressing the "annoying" button.

If we add to that the fact that most people would label as "bragging" or "showing off" or looking down on others, the behavior of boosting of one's presumed "knowledge", then the inevitable will come once again.

Of course, I personally don't mind it because each person is free to create his own reality and project it outwards.

This reality is his, it doesn't represent everyone. For instance, I solidly believe that pursuing academic degrees, post-graduate studies and learning more languages reveal the scope of our progress as human beings. This fact alone should create some sense of modesty (excluding the tendency to "show off") because the one who pursues such a path should realize that his knowledge is a very tiny, even infinitesimal, fraction of what hundreds and tens of thousands of people have already achieved since man started using alphabet.

That being said I believe that everyone is free to say whatever he wants if it is not abusive or offensive. I am sure that all fans here appreciate the quality of sensei's astonishing drawings. This is at least a common thing between all of us and perhaps this aspect can lead us to be lenient and fair towards each other. What if you personally couldn't comment on your favorite manga because your comments are always marked as annoying? You'll be upset, right? So let's be lenient towards each other, we/you could just ignore a comment if you don't like its content.

towards a particular person? that's me! i posted 5 comments in row and i mentionned that i was excited to explain my behavior!, and i have noticed that's is not the point coz other have posted more than me but they wasn't deranged or upset! let me tell you that some of those people have two three alias, if you judge that someone is annoying you just pass and ignorehis his posting, here is the unique place where the fans act like they own this spot! tell you it's enough or u posted a lot or act like supervisor! in youtube i heve seen 2, 3 pages discution beetween only two pepole they are free to post their throught opinion ,it's silly ! mangago is not their property! their bad behaviour including insult can spoiled ur enthusiasm, but it's not my case, they don't own mangago and i'am free to express my opinion without hurting or hates.

From what I see, the "annoying" button (particularly in the VF forum) is turning into a tool for bullying.

But, reponce, that is just it. You didn't just post 5 comments. You practically littered this place. There were easily about 40, 50 comments and new threads within as little as two days, all by you. You also posted major spoilers when the majority of people here had not even seen the new chapter.

It was suggested to you that you should please stop posting spoilers and that, and I'm quoting by memory here, rather than post every few minute to make lesser, longer posts with your impressions. Nobody wants you to stop posting. But your spamming of the board like that was indeed very annoying, inconsiderate and disrespectful of other people here. No, whowever thumbed you down doesn't own the place, reponce, but neither do you. Yet that is exactly how you behaved.

You could have reflected on what was being said to you and have realized that people did indeed have a point there. Instead you ranted about how you were ever so superior with speaking four languages and preparing for your doctorate and your knowledge. So in addition to being inconsiderate to others you were also being incredibly arrogant and one has to wonder: If you think of yourself as that high and mighty, if you consider everyone to be a bunch of imbeciles, then why even come here?

I'm sure all people wanted for you was to reign it in a little with the posts, to be a bit more respectful towards others and a little bit more humble about how your look upon yourself and how you present yourself to others.

For what it's worth, there is more than one person with a much wider range of language proficiency here than yours, who also have more than one postgraduate degree and who could easily outdo you academically. But you don't hear them bragging about it.

Just my two cents of worth. So by all means, reponce, keep on posting. But do it with thought (of which you say have a lot), consideration and moderation. And maybe an apology for your nasty bragging and the haughty attitude might also not be a bad idea.

Again, I didn't thumb you down. But I can see why people did. It has been mentioned to me on LJ by quite a number of other people that they find your behavior here incredibly aggravating.

So, just give this some thought please. I'm sure if you take this into consideration in the future, everything will be fine.

Hmmm...was fairly sure someone would give some thumbs down to this - even if it is a reasonable comment - come on people - this is probably the silliest behaviour on Mangago! Nothing offensive was said in any of these comments so think before you act! This is juvenile! *shake my head* I was hope people would be a little more adult, but I guess I was mistaken. I agree with you. However a reasonable solution can only be reached if everyone wants to be mature about it like Tokidoki said but if pressing the "annoying" button is just done to bully, intimidate or ostracize, then that is a different matter. Under this topic there have been two sets of subjects: 1) addressing the annoying vote and 2) objections to reponce's behavior. If everyone is civilized about this, then the problem will be solved but if like Tokidoki pointed out, it is just an immature and juvenile behavior, doesn't that mean that the "annoying" vote will spread and increase to annoy everyone? Should we file a petition for a "liking" button besides the "annoying" button for comments to make things even?

I like it that you are straightforward and don't beat around the bush and though I agree with you on the part of "For what it's worth (...) But you don't hear them bragging about it", but isn't it a little bit too harsh on her? She didn't say it to everyone, she only said it to the person who used foul language with her. She was insulted first, provoked then she said that to the anonymous person in question. Hence, the way I see it they are even "tit for tat", unless the person who insulted her with "f*ck you* and the rest of the foul language wants to apologize first (this is however a different matter from the excessive posting on which I agree!).

Dear Anonymous, honey, (since I can only assume you are talking about my comment) it seems we're having a communication issue: I was complimenting @Alice for her comment, in essence, I'm agreeing with everything she said. Also, I'm stating that she's above average when it comes to most of the people who frequent this page, instead of resorting to foul language to try to get her point across, she used her brain to produce an articulate, mature reply.

Listen skye, I am not the anonymous who wrote the previous comment but I like your replies and the way you "reason", but it is not a compliment. It is a different "like" especially since the way you talk seems like you are already a middle-aged woman but not necessarily a college graduate, far from it actually (but that doesn't matter, what matters is that you slipped on a banana peel and you haven't noticed it yet. Of course, it is to be expected, you have too much brain cells that your brain became overcharged :) ).
Well the irony which the previous anonymous pointed out is that Alice made a very good argument against people who show off. The anonymous who replied to you was trying to make you see that you too were bragging by handing out IQ certificates and posing yourself as some sort of an omniscient deity who can actually tell who is average or not.
As for the final part of your reply, I am sure that by now you understand that before being worried about whether other people have more brain cells or not, are average or not, you should worry about how to use yours. You are the one who set the discriminating cleavage between average/ non-average so at least make the effort to achieve the crossover from below the average to the average, and good luck with that. I know it is going to be very difficult for you :)

I was actually curious about how many I posted, since I feel I barely come here nowadays :3. I'm the type to translate notes for the heck of it, of course I'm going to count for the heck of it. And I'm responding to this for very similar reasons :)

Thing is, I don't think reponce was talking to anyone on a personal level prior to this minor uproar. So I don't see how people got affected by that... And comments on her intelligence sounds rather out of place to me since I'm pretty sure she's living in some third world country (I can't recall the specific one though, but hey, they speak French in there :D).

Can you really say that. It is human nature to try and defend themselves, especially to a stranger. It doesn't matter what your excuses are, the fact is comments are affective. I don't deny it at all how some simple comments on blogs can have me thinking for days. It just bothered me when you said how can reponce's comments affect people that much when in the past, I remember you responding quite strongly to some random comments. Reponce's spoilers or continuous posts weren't that bothersome, but the moment she started waving her "superiority" in front of other people, that set it all off. You can be the smartest person in the world, but you can't lord it over everyone else because people don't like it.

Well that is the way you see things however in most of the so-called "third world" countries - though this designation is archaic - there are francophone communities.
I had the chance and the pleasure to meet outstanding people from different countries and the ones who came from the so-called "third-world" countries didn't brag about their outstanding academic background.
Bragging is a personal behavior, a Canadian can brag, a Belgian, a French and so forth. Bragging and geographic region aren't associated but if this is how you see it, then this your choice.

Ummm...just so you know, if you don't have a login in name for this site (which makes your name show up in bright yellow) then you cannot use the "annoying" option, and for people to have more than one alias must mean they have registered with the site multiple times with different email addresses - at least that is how I think it works. So any dim yellow name could mean multiple aliases over the bright.

What else did you expect? Bulling is a real thing in real life and it's even easier on the internet where even the most timid person can hide behind their anonymity. How often is it you hear about a respected person with a great career and a loving family playing the part of the bully on the internet. It would be great to if people online weren't so aggressive, but that's wishful thinking and naive.

C'est mon dernier commentaire puisque cette discussion n'ira nulle part. Je n'ai pas remarqué que tu étais Algérienne maintenant je comprends mieux, peut-être tu es amazighe aussi puisque tu dis que tu parles quatre langues (ça doit être l'amazighe à côté de l'Arabe, le Français et l'Anglais).
Etant donné que j'ai des amis Algériens, je peux dire que beaucoup de nos confrères Algériens sont très éduqués, certains parlent le Français mieux que les Occidentaux ou les Québécois (en se sens, peut-être certaines régions du monde occidental sont plus tiers-mondiales que le soi-disant "Tiers Monde").
Finalement quand j'ai répondu avant, moi aussi j'ai dû comprendre que le problème initial c'était le fait que tu t'es vantée. Cependant quand je me suis ravisée, je me suis souvenue du fait que tu as été insultée au départ.
De toute façon après tout ce qui a été dit, la réaction est exagérée. Tu es dorénavant la cible d'une campagne d'intimidation.
Il s'est avéré aussi après tout ces commentaires que cette discussion (est-ce une?) n'ira nulle part. Pfff, c'est sûrement pas une différence de culture, mis à part que les américains (et très certainement plusieurs autres places) très généralement croient que c'est très bien de tout dire ce qu'ils pensent même quand c'est légèrement direct. Enfin, je généralise intense. Mais non, je n'arrive pas tant à les comprendre pour l'instant :P

Mais oui, j'avais cru comprendre que tu te défendais plus qu'autre chose, les gens disaient le contraire alors bon j'avais peut-être manqué un bout de cette histoire.

Et puis bon, c'est peut-être de la manière dont tu as phrasé tes trucs, c'est facile de sonner insultant dans une autre langue sans le faire exprès. I'm reading this entire conversation and I really hope that some of this is trolling. Otherwise I've lost faith in humanity. Let's just read the damn BL on this site and not use it to indulge the pass-time of obviously ignorant individuals. I for one, to actually re-rail the conversation to the original topic, hope that Mangago will eventually let you take back your votes, because I find myself accidentally voting people down every once in awhile and it makes me feel rather lousy.

And that giant blurb, just in case you don't speak Japanese, Reponse, is describing my advice to you: please go back and relearn English grammar and punctuation if you are so inclined. I have many a friend who would attest to the same sort of multi-lingual mastery as you, but the weight of their opinions are far greater acknowledged by the eloquence and control of their statements through proper usage of paragraph organization and sentence punctuation. Your paragraphs are littered with careless mistakes that, even to someone who spoke English as their first language, would be unacceptable. And they are things which you could easily rectify, and things for which you cannot claim the "4th language" as ample reasoning to have presented yourself so. If you have an incorrect understanding oｆ the language, then you can claim your foreign tongue to be the cause, but text speak and bad punctuation, ESPECIALLY because you speak alternatively other European languages (not Asian languages) is frankly rude. As Lightasus was saying, your overall tone as a writer is at its core combative and foul-natured. If you are not a troll, I do recommend that you correct that.

To native speakers especially, the language you are speaking is not only a secret code of some sort with which to talk to others, unbeknownst to those ignorant of the foreign tongue you speak, but also it is literally the channel through which a culture is conveyed, and an official staple of a subset of people that is meant to be respected and cherish, if even difficult to formulate in perfection. If I didn't give my all in every language I have learned (as a Japanese Language major), I would feel ashamed that I have so brazenly trampled upon the written tradition of what I have aspired to learn. I do respectfully hope that you are more prolific in your other 3 languages, and that you will, with certainty, write as though you wish to allow others to "hear" your thoughts properly, not merely putting fingers to keys for the sake of hearing your own dialect of incoherent hogwash. Whoa, if you can't understand French very well, don't try to quote me O.o. Beware the language barrier.
Everyone falls into that kind of trap with foreign languages, especially when they're so close to your native one and you just assume it works the same, even me to this day... Though I'm not exactly sure that that was the issue here. In any case, I wasn't saying that that her writing was foul-natured or anything of the sort, please don't put words into my mouth :)

After further consideration, that's probably only a small interpretation issue, nothing to do about your reading skills.

Personally, I never studied English. I just assimilate languages as time goes through medias. I read novels when I was a child, I ended up writing near-perfect French at 12. Played English video games because they weren't available in French here at the time, ended up learning it and started to sleep in English classes. I couldn't dictate you grammar rules to save my life though. Same for Japanese, subbed animes surprisingly made me assimilate lots over the years, though of course I have to study the kanjis (after I learned hiraganas and katakanas in two days). They're fun to learn in any case :3

I don't think most people that know more than one language have given lots of time to study it. It just becomes better with time when it's actually useful to you on a daily basis.

I hate to say it, but they may be right about the grammar. If English is your 4th language, off grammar is expected, but you write many and long comments, there's a chance some people just be off-put by having a hard time reading it, and therefore click annoying because of seeing it so much. Again, this is just one possibility. I would recommend maybe start by capitalizing the beginning of your sentences and not using "text" shortenings (such as ur and coz) in order to improve your language skills. Since you know so many languages, I assume you have an interest in them, and would want to improve them whenever you can. :)

It's because English is a combination of a number of languages. Don't be discouraged if you are in the process of learning it, it takes a long time to understand the different shades of meaning for many words. What I love is when things get translated a little wrong and it makes something that is an everyday expression into something funny, like here ... LOL

*winks* Hug! It can be a very long journey (I tried Japanese for a year and failed miserably, even though I have six languages already, so when something is quite foreign, it takes a long time) I am sure you can do it, you already have some slang in your writing (a good thing).

Right, there are mistranslations that are off badly. This isn't one of them. This is one case where it works for the win!

Oh my goodness! English prepositions even drive native English speakers and writers crazy. When should we use "off" or "out" or "away"? It's never simple. Most English folk look at the mistake and shrug it off (or smile happily when it has an unintentionally sly double meaning, like this one, which comes across as clever.) There are other languages which approach things much more academically, but then those languages aren't used almost universally either. I don't know why one of the most illogical languages became so ubiquitous, but I'm very lucky that it did. Because you write English much better than I write Malay, or whatever it is you speak; I can guarantee that and it's nothing for me to be proud about. So, kudos for learning.
