They grew up together, treated each other as siblings, then they got together and married. If step sibling pairings is morally wrong for you, then childhood friend pairings should bother you just as much.
In their case, the MC and ML might as well have met up in a match making dinner with their parents since they were literally adults and practically strangers to each other.
Why would you assume the childhood friend trope doesnt weird me out? if you scroll through my reading list you would notice about 95% of my books dont include that trope with an exception here and there. I cant finish cherry blossoms after winter no matter how many times i pick it up for that exact same reason. Im not an overthinker, im just a dry texter that wonders how this will play out that will make everyone not be weirded out. by everyone i mean even those that agree with me. ntm just pondering until people decided to tell me what my morals should be. And it definitely shouldnt be not to form a mating bond with your soon to be step brother. I feel like as a reader, wondering about these things is what keeps you interested in reading. The assumption thing, its basically telling someone that struggles in algebra that calculus should be equally as hard for them aNd explained why .and its like “yeah i know, why would you think otherwise?”. Even if its just a suggestion it kinda felt odd that you had to assume my morals ended at step siblings for you to find the need explain why.
