I don't understand why everyone is so upset about the backstory. It's definitely essential to the main plot. Also Brian is literally Ian so all the comments about liking one more than the other makes no sense to me. Just because Ian does not have his memories does not mean they aren't the same. They have the same personality. If Ian were faced with the situation Brian is, he would make the exact same decisions. Sol is in love with Ian because he is the exact same person as Brian...
