I think this is a concept of purgatory where you keep re-living the same life over and over again till you sacrifice yourself for good and decide to follow god. Others are just there to test her.
On other side what makes the whole thing so bitter is she is abuse victim and most victim think death would take away the pain. But in her case, after each death it only gets worst. She could have turned inward, found things that interested her, go for walk, have more hobbies or something. Anything better than depression and becoming shell.
