Is everyone involved in making this... Okay? Like... Are the s. koreans okay? There seems to be a recurring theme of extreme injustice/tragedy in here. And not even cathartic in a way... i'm just um, worried.
I'm not criticizing this, oh no. Im not opening THAT box, Pandora. I'm just... Trying to analyze/digest what all this is... Like I think him dying would be as satisfying an ending, honestly. Actually I should die. We should all die-
The only advice i can give is Pls make sure you are in an okay state of mind while reading this TT Im gonna take a break from these kinds of manhwas lol (But every time i find something else to read It still ends up being sad/SA-filled tragedy TT LIKE!! I thought "Temperature of Skin" was gonna be fine TT)
Like what is it about (im gonna assume here) straight women authors and writing about homophobia so violently? And 10 times out of 10, have a gay character end up with said violent homophobe? I cannot take it seriously WHERE ARE MY SIMPLE HOMOPHOBES REPRESENTATION??
Where are the homophobes who looove the funny gays and then vote actively against their rights? Where are the homophobes who just say eww when they see two ppl holding hands? Where are my homophobes who say they tolerate gay people but will never accept them? It's always extremely exaggerated to the point where it's almost funny Like girl, switch it up lmao
Im going CRAZY WHY IS THE TITLE "IT STARTS WITH ISAAC" BUT LITERALLY NO ONE IN THE ENTIRE THING (YES I READ ALL OF IT) IS NAMED ISAAC?
like WHAT???
SPOILERS:
2/5stars man. I feel like Asil just settled in the end lmao. Like it was written to have Asil be abandoned by everyone and all he had was a psychotic rapist left, so the author said, "hm just settle with val the end :) " I love trope-y, soap opera, ultra cliché BLs that can be FUN and this wasnt any fun :(
- 98-chapter torture arc (opening with SA already)
- 2-chapter regret arc (Bonus points if ML just realizes stuff and cries)
- there will never actually be any professional punishment for the ML and will even get promoted
- I might cry for Mokhwa at some point
Let's see lmao
Actually this is one where the chasing, yearning and repentance arc is very long and you have so many internal monologues of the ml, to the point where he might be the mc. Infact we get very less internal thoughts of mc. But despite the hard reads with the grape at first, it gets really better. And as a reader who read it when it was releasing weekly, this was a slow burn for me. But in the end, it was worth reading because not in a lot of manhwas we see the ML repenting so much and actually understand the weight of his actions. He actually understands that what he did was detestable and he doesn't deserve the mc love.
I actually finished not too long ago! And yeah, im glad it went somewhere I didnt expect. I just really keep my expectations low on BLs so that I can be pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed lol. Hence my predictions (that are very much based on real BLs lmao). By the end i was like I would die for mokhwa actually, and would kill nakwon for him lmao.
One thing I wouldve wanted tho was a backstory on mokhwa and his supposed boss. Like the beginning chapters felt like they were setting it up, but I was kinda bummed they never brought it up again. Or whatever happened to him after escaping.
Spolier-filled Hot take: Hyobum had more character development than both Yoo-il and Soobin combined.
(also didnt Yoo-il introduce that predator to Hyobum? Yoo-il is was difficult to root for. Both him and Soobin.)
The art was so cute and wonderful, but the story just didnt have... good flow. I could even argue that Yoo-il and Soobin are the real villains of this story, treating hyesung like an object they can win. There arent a lot of emotional points/arcs in the story that really focus on developing their romantic relationship. It's always "wow he's so hot" and then what? He's hot and? What else do you like about him? I found myself asking that a LOT until the end lol. I just wish they had more chemistry.
I would read a story about Hyobum and what comes next for him. He went through so much awful shit and his misdirected anger was pointed at Yoo-il (I’m pretty sure Yoo-il didn’t introduce him to the evil guy, though). But Hyobum was trying so hard to be better, get clean, get away from the drugs. A really telling thing is that, even though the two of them didn’t get along, Yoo-il always insisted Hyobum wasn’t the kind of guy to willingly get involved in those kinds of things, and he was totally right. I think his character arc is the most interesting part of the whole story tbh.
Exactlyyyyy. It's kinda sad that we wanted more of Hyobum than the main characters lol. Sometimes I wonder if writers make side characters more interesting on purpose or by accident. OR they overwrite the main characters to the point where they become boring which by contrast, makes the side character more interesting by default I see it in so much BL lol.

I can excuse whatever and anything, but i draw the line at being uninteresting lmao
Like im not even expecting a redemption arc. I was expecting INTERESTING. Idc if he straight up kills his mom. Him breaking Mc's leg made me laugh tho because it was so RANDOM lmao. Like they wrote it to make him look so black flaaag~ but it made him look like i mean tryhard~ yeesh
Ikr? Like he sucks at being a anything! MC gave him so many chances to punish him for good lol and all we got was this.. alright.
Hey, sounds like you might have "interesting ML" then? Would you recommend something for me? The most interesting ML for me is usually from cn novels lol. They be bat shit crazy mother fucker istg they are just so perfectly unhinged i love them so much lmao
When I read the novel the scene where the MC gets caught getting drunk with his classmates, it was more vicious like lowkey the description to the mc being forced to drink alcohol to the point of puking himself in bed was more violent. I lowkey thought the mc would’ve ended up in the hospital but nah it was just brushed past quickly here.
Right!! Also, how their relationship and their behaviour just went back to being the same after every incident like nothing happened.
