I’ve reread this a couple times now and I just need to get these thoughts out. One of the lines early on in this season says that:
“SO ANY ATTEMPT TO FORCIBLY BIND THEM WITH THE RED THREAD CAN HAVE DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS ON THEIR DESTINY...”
My mind put emphasis on “forcibly.” The other premise of this season is to remain “clear” and have all misfortune will be purged. Failure results into misfortune purged and memories erased.
This whole time I’ve been thinking that HKH wasn’t really “forced,” at least not a romantic love level. Clearing previous quests have pushed our MCs to be open/honest. I think our rock is giving HKH an opportunity to “consent” to the red string connection. Both will need to commit to the connection moving forward.
If they don’t, the tie will be severed, the memories lost, and the connection will fade. Once the connection is gone, HKH will be lucky again.
Maybe this is obvious but I’ve been ruminating on it for a bit.
It’s totally fair that people are icked out by ML’s expression/confession rn. I got impatient and read the novel.
Slight spoiler for those who want a reason to keep reading:
It does start to feel genuine later. ML has the upper hand right now and likes to be able to control the narrative (it’s a defensive mechanism… he’s the traumatized alpha.). He loses that control at some point and has to be genuinely emotional—he has to chase MC. It’s really satisfying because the relationship starts to feel equal between MC and ML.
More spoilers:
ML does legitimately care for and likes MC at this moment. Without giving too much away, ML’s family dynamic is complicated; it puts ML in a position that he feels he must constantly manage his image.
I think this will come through well when we get the ML’s pov. Those were some of my favorite chapters.

I keep reading these last couple of chapters because I think it’s hilarious how much Uyun looks like his sister when he’s angry. Very hot. Thank you author.
