I think og hikaru's soul is eaten by unuki-san. That's why unuki-san can grant hikaru's wish(Unuki has to do something before he grant someone's wish).
Because in the last ch unuki-san want to eat yoshiki's soul to grant yoshiki's wish, but he can't(the item protected yoshiki from unuki).

my current theory is that the great brain snatcher didn't receive its sacrifice (was this already assumed by yoshiki? i don't remember), and hikaru's body was actually stolen and taken over by this kaleidoscope looking creature before the ritual could be completed. all the bad things happening in town must be related to the tsujinaka's losing the great brain snatcher's favor this year.
