I'm genuinely scared for our main character. Ilay reminds me of the guy from painter of the night.

He probably knew what kind of asshole Oscar was before Ines married him through some sort of gentlemen club bullshit. Then, he witnesses that piece of garbage rape her and, after all that, has the audacity to "beg" Ines to ask her rapist for forgiveness. The rage is very real. Not even jail, straight up prison for both Oscar and the brother. Let's throw the parents and mother in law in there too.

Its her brother who witnessing Oscar violate Inez and beg for forgiveness, not carcel.

I mean they don’t have any other choice. He knew that was literally her only option, to beg. She now belongs to the royal family. If her family were to say something it could be seen as treason for questioning the royal family. That’s why Ines said she didn’t realize his eyes were filled with despair, he knew everything but knew he had no power to do anything. I could only imagine how he felt after finding out she killed herself (in that timeline)

Plus he portrayed himself as the perfect husband. He kept his chasity for his wife. & even after 3 miscarriages he sent her to “recover” in the most beautiful villa instead of punishing her. Like literally no one would side with her or risk it

Readers like you really don't bother to put into perspective how time period and social rankings have an influence on setting and character buliding. Luciano loved Ines, however he is the heir to the Valeztena Duchy and Ines is the Crown Princess to the entire empire. His best gamble of not only protecting his sister but also the prestige that was built over generations was for her to beg Oscar for forgiveness. The situation they were both in couldn't of resulted in any other rational decision: we all know what happened when Ines ran away in another timeline. The situation will never be simple when it involves the imperial family, anything that even slightly defies their values is witnessed as treason which was why Luciano (despite against it) begged Ines to beg even if it poisoned the last piece of her wilting pride. In more modern media, we have the benefit of a more equal social hierarchy however let's not forget this story is set in an age where your position in social class fundamentally mattered and how most noble families were distant with each other. If anything, her brother is quite kind considering how the typical noble brother would act in this period.

thank u for this reply. i get a little pissed off reading the og comment. in that time what else couldve luciano done? he loves ines so much, to witness how ines was treated like that must hv killed him inside. im pretty sure divorce is out of the option, oscar is the damn crown prince with a "good" reputation w the public and ines family is powerful enough that any moves against the empire can be considered as treason. oscar knows this and thats why he dared to show luciano the way he treated ines. bcs in that period of time, no one can go against him.

Care to enlighten me then how her brother staged a rebellion after her death? I mean he was successful at it so why wait until that point?

this can be interpreted differently by everyone and i guess that applied to the og comment too, my mistake for raging after reading the comment as a result from the emotional chapter. but imo still, it was bcs the worst has already happened; ines died. he has nothing more to lose. though i think u might scoff at this reasoning of mine, but it is how i see it, given the circumstances. sure, we can all say he shoudlve, and couldve done more. but the worst has already happened. grief, avenging, taking revenge for someone is a strong catalyst for one to start a rebellion anyway. and the will ines left behind couldve helped too in skewing the public view of oscar. i dont want to argue; so u dont hv to reply if u plan to.

to clarify, i'm complaining about the brother. not carcel. and i don't care what luciano's circumstances as heir are. women are always thrown under the bus because some men think that is the best solution. fuck them.

No no I wasn't intending to argue. Merely here to ask for spoilers since I didn't read the novel so wanted to know these details haha

He staged a rebellion after her death? Where was this mentioned? I honestly don’t remember. I know that she left a letter saying everything he did to her before she killed herself so it would ruin him, but I don’t remember a rebellion

oh hehe,,, if u dont mind spoilers then i can just message u bcs other ppl might mind it if i drop it here. but i think its important to remember that we see things through ines pov and bcs of how much her memories of timelines overlapped and messed up, shes not a very reliable narrator even to herself. when luciano had the conversation w her, oscar's men were keeping watch on them is all i can say. and for a fact, luciano was in the middle of staging a rebellion but ines, for personal reasons (that can be a little spoiler) decided to kill herself. i think they will reveal more of the past timeline in clear and full context later on so... yeah.
