This does have a horror tag. Murder could be a part of that, but so could supernatural things like ghosts. The author already has done a similar concept with their previous book. What if does kill him and he comes back to haunt him? Maybe I'm stretching it tho.
Going for the supernatural route in the middle of the plot when from the very beginning the story has been established in a real life setting, I think it would be a poor-writing choice.
Sure, you can have a supernatural plot, but there needs to be hints from the very beginning.
I guess the foreshadowing for it being supernatural could be there but you have to really DIG very deep, and I think it’s too much of a reach.
I eat this shit up every time. Love me some toxic shit. Yandere vs toxic power bottom

His eyes glow when the spell activates. So....when he feels intense emotions, the spell suppresses those emotions. That's so sad.
It's devastating... I empathise with him. Because imagine people are calling you red flag for not caring about Thalia, but here you can see in this chapter that he's fighting against the spell's authority
That make so much more sense, thanks
Wait what spell?
No, regarding his cold demeanor, it's not a spell. Varkas is deeply traumatized from his childhood training. His father + the church.
Varkas can barely show any emotion because he was raised under rigorous, abusive training by his father to mold him into the perfect, unyielding heir. Someone who exists solely for duty and honor. Showing weakness, pain or emotional vulnerability was literally beaten out of him. He adopted emotional detachment purely as a survival mechanism.
