I’m still mourning gunner and Theo’s relationship. If the author had taken a different approach they would’ve been the perfect couple.. can the author pull a “Wet Sand” move and make Gunner then end game, I’m asking for too much and the readers won’t like this comment one bit
Actually, I’ve never replied to any comments before but yours made me really uncomfortable. How can you appreciate a toxic relationship and try to make it looks like a healthy one? Gunner was the one that didn’t respect his promise that he made to Theo. It’s totally understandable that Theo doesn’t want to be in a relationship with someone tied with illegal stuff (plus, he was studying in a law school at the time so there was no way he would be fine with it). So Gunner is the only one to blame for not being in line with Theo’s boundaries. More importantly, he RAPED, TRICKED and SHOT Theo, wdym you like their relationship ??? I’m genuinely confused even tough I’m someone pretty open-minded that can understand hot takes. That’s not a hot take, that’s insanity.
Right cause let’s just all ignore the fact that I said “if the author had taken a different approach” as in if the author hadn’t made Gunner a character who rapes, kills and does other illegal stuff. Gosh it’s crazy how I make my words as clear as possible yet the replies are filled with people who don’t even bother to read the whole thing :(
Also can we NOT forget what genre we’re reading? Ofcourse I wouldn’t fucking justify rape but in this fantasy almost all authors make their Li’s start out bad and then they become good. Take low tide in twilight for an example and many other ones. The origin of species? Can’t think straight? Even monster in the mist. This story can literally have so many different approaches. One day the author can decide to make Dylan the bad guy and turn gunner into the good one. Again, I am NOT justifying rape— but let’s just take a breather and think clearly for a second at how these kind of stories always turn out
Since the author didn't choose the approach you're so desperately mourning over, why not just let it go?
The author deliberately made Gunner a rapist to establish him as the villain, yet somehow you think it would've been a good idea for him and Theo to end up together? You even went as far as hoping Dylan would turn out to be a bad person just so Theo could go back to Gunner. What would even be the point of the manhwa then? Is Theo supposed to keep ending up with the people who hurt and traumatized him?
Wow, what a brilliant idea. Maybe you should write your own book.
If this happened in real life, who in their right mind would tell someone to get back together with their rapist? Apparently you would, because that logic makes absolutely no sense. You seriously need therapy.
It’s just that I’ve been reading on this website for over 6 years and it’s always been the same story. Everytime it’s something involving gangs and drugs, rape almost ALWAYS happen and then the author suddenly gives the rapist some kind of character development and he becomes a good good.
I’m always expecting everything.
I literally said “if only the author has approached this differently.”
Why are we ignoring this specific thing that I’ve said and focusing on everything else
And as I’ve said in my other reply, I’ve been reading these kind of manhwas for over 6 years and it’s been always the same. I just always expect this so it never surprises me
Not gonna lie, you're right that a lot of gang or crime manhwas follow that pattern, where the rapist or toxic ML suddenly gets a redemption arc and somehow ends up with the MC. It's understandable why you'd expect that.
But this manhwa didn't go that route. Theo left Gunner because he was abusive, raped him, and was involved in illegal activities. Then he met Dylan, who's been nothing like Gunner. Dylan actually respects Theo, cares about him, and Theo genuinely likes him too.
So I don't get why you're wishing for Dylan to suddenly become a terrible person just so Theo can go back to his rapist ex. That isn't appreciating a different story—it's projecting other manhwas onto this one and hoping this one follows the same toxic formula. If the author chose to tell a different story, why not just let it be different instead of wishing for Theo to end up back with the person who hurt him?
Nobody is ignoring that part. The problem is what you said after it.
You didn't just say, "If only the author approached this differently." You also said you wished Dylan would turn out to be a bad person so Theo would end up with Gunner. That's what people are reacting to.
The author didn't approach it differently. They made Gunner a rapist and the villain. At that point, hoping Theo ends up back with his abuser completely undermines Theo's character growth and everything the story is trying to say.
And saying you've read these kinds of manhwas for six years doesn't really change that. Being used to toxic redemption arcs doesn't make this one of them, nor does it make wanting the victim to return to his rapist any less disturbing.
Yeah, I can understand your point at some extent but at the end of the day, the author didn’t chose this approach. If you change the whole plot and the characters, then of course, it would be different. But no, you can’t try to romanticize something that has never existed and will never. So yes, I did read your whole comment because it wasn’t that long nor deep but all the people who replied have the right to be shocked by your opinion. It shouldn’t be normalized to be « mourning » a toxic relationship that was filled with rape and violence and you can’t change the fact that it happened. It would be weird to dream about their « ideal » relationship because that would mischaracterize the characters and change the actual plot.
I can understand that you didn’t appreciate the « aggressive » replies but it’s the truth : let’s not give any recognition to rapist, we can’t change them nor erase the atrocities committed.
Actually, that’s not an excuse. I agree with your point that lot of bls have non-con and that’s a big issue. But, it’s not because other authors add unnecessary rape scenes that it can excuse the one in this story. I’m actually not a fan of the bls that you mentionned even though, they are loved by our community. Sadly, lot of people are neglecting the non-con in those stories and are trying to justify the impossible. Also, multiple things can be true at the same time : this story implies a Rapist (Gunner) and others bls also have those shitty people. But, it doesn’t change the fact that what you said was inappropriate. It’s not just about « approaches » - of course, if you want to imagine some action to the plot, you’re allowed to do that - because you’re actually trying to make the characters out of their character. Gunner can’t and will never be « the good one », you can try as much as you want to make him a good bf, that will never change the fact that he raped, was abusive and shot Theo. Dylan may not be perfect (he’s also weird at times, I agree) but compared to gunner, he’ll never be « the bad one » because one is yearning for Theo while the other is obsessive and violent towards him.
I’m actually worried about the point that you made at the end but I don’t want to fully judge you because you showed that you’re aware of the impact of sexual assault and how this topic shouldn’t be neglected. But at the same time, you still want to appreciate Gunner, a man who represents all this issue. You can try to understand morally wrong characters but let’s not attach ourselves to them because, unconsciously, we’re using our time to give love to rapists instead of using it for the victims/survivors.
You genuinely seem like a nice person, don’t fall for the propaganda of characters like Gunner, it will only ruin you.
I’ve spend way too much time reading bls instead of doing productive things and touching grass so if you want some good recommendations, I’m all ears !! I can understand the frustration of reading shitty plots that always finish in the same say but I think that you may not have found the masterpieces that I’ve loved.
Yall I don’t remember the name but it was a BL manhwa and the only scene I remember was that the MC works at a café and the Love interest(??) ordered an americano and there was like a confusion on why the customers only ordered an americano but it was because the prices of other coffees were just way too expensive .. yall I am like 100% it was a BL manhwa
I can’t bring myself to continue the sides.. I’m reading the comments each update to see what happens before deciding whether I wanna get my hopes up or read the ending with an ugly crying face
