This has some cute moments but man was the redemption lacking. The FL folded way too quickly. Sure, I understand she still has feelings for him no matter what she says but they should've had the ML make it up to her anyway.

Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Like dude, there was no way you could've pulled her into a secret passage and like given her a letter to read so no one could overhear or something?! Why leave her in the dark for 8 years?!! ヽ(`Д´)ノ

I know people are gonna argue with me but why the heck did they not notice their daughter was unhappy and do something before she was falling into delusions and kidnapping people? Her parents dropped the ball here. They could've:

(1) limited her exposure to other people until she was like 10 or something so they could limit the amount of hate she received. Educated her about her heritage and about the empire's view of their people before she was probably blindsided.
(2) Show her the dark plains at least once so she has good memories of the place. It's not impossible apparently since her mother can travel around and goes there to help.
(3) Also why the hell would you lock your daughter in a dark closet and forcefully unlock her abilities when she hates her identity so badly she's harming herself and trying to kill herself? She's clearly not well. This probably would've been way past the time to seek major help.

Especially #3! You're telling me someone as vocal as they were showing her to be did not show signs of unhappiness before she was throwing herself down the stairs or stabbing herself (I'm assuming. There was a knife image when they talk about self harm I think.)

Clearly, these parents were severely negligent. How do you miss this? Like not all people when depressed show it outwardly or are always sad/unhappy but Lyna was clearly showing it by being angry/lashing out. There must have been something.

Not saying Lyna is not responsible for her actions or that her depression/mental health is an excuse. Nope, not at all. But I don't consider her Dad at the very least to be a good person either (as of ch 79). Mom's kind of on thin ice since she didn't notice anything either until she needed to leave.

no i completely agree, instead of hiding away the mother's heritage they should've educated her on it. and i still haven't gotten over how her father basically abused her, i don't like how the story just glossed over that?

Sorry I mean stop having the thousand year old child end up in a relationship with a grown adult man. This guy has to be late twenties/early thirties and he's with what he clearly stated was a CHILD (at least very young) by even dragon standards. Stop doing this! Why authors?! Why?!

Darkkan13 January 20, 2026 9:15 am

Seriously authors please stop having the thousand year old dragon act and look like a child! It's gross and freaking weird.

Ok so is Abe no Seimei possibly:

A. playing the villain

The yokai he killed was part one of the ones trying to kill him

The student he broke could be broken without causing permanent damage

Who said "like Akira?" If it was Seimei then isn't it odd that he doesn't know anyone else's name but knew Akira's? It was too perfectly timed if he said it.

This is a guy who knows the future so were these "needed" actions?

OR

B. He's desensitized by seeing the future that he's basically numb but not completely without compassion/empathy

His actions in the previous section as well as the fact that he felt yokai could be taught and "placed" the person who could accomplish that

He also placed someone trustworthy by his side (Suzaku)

He also kept the shutendouji from being eradicated for his future self

He probably knew when he'd die and that's why he asked Suzaku to watch over Douman at that time

It would depend on his motivations but this guy is clearly not full villain. If he was, wouldn't he use his abilities to live? Gain immortality or truly ignore everyone around him instead of being an onmyouji people come to for help?

Isn't that how eyes look when they return to origin? Also confused is it bad to "return to origin"? It feels like sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes bad...does anyone know?
