This is a beautiful amount of redemption required of a troubled, toxic main character. Let us not forget his opinions publicly of gay people as early as the first two chapters of the story. I really, truly appreciate that the author is making him put in the work and is not going to give him anything after all the s*** he has done. A refreshing turn of the story.
I just really love that we have a story here about two people who are mature enough to realize that they have shortcomings and flaws and need each other and actually communicate that. So often the Trope is that you have a broken character and the perfect angel to fix them, when in actuality these two both have so many problems and need to help each other. It's very real and very rewarding.
