Because the whole point of his character is being "curious". He doesn't pursue our MC because he loves him, he's curious to the effects of the Name. It's stated and practically laid out in the early chapters that he was treated differently for being a Namer and when he finally found out his Named pair, who also coincidentally doesnt know that he is a Named, he thought it was the perfect lay out for the ML to prove whether names are a placebo effect by society, or a real magical thing that ties two people together. That's why he goes on this push & pull tangent with our MC, because he firmly believes that our MC is being affected by the power of the "Name". He treats the "Name" and MC as seperate beings... And that concept is argued with the viewer's perspective of the MC where we actually get to experience what our MC is thinking. This entire story is basically the battle of nature vs nurture. Is it in the "named partner's" nature for them to be in love or was it simply society nurturing them into thinking they will fall in love just because they're named partners. That's the focus of the story.
