I'm of the same opinion as you. The coming of age incident, and all the rest until the end have been my favorite parts of the whole story.
I lowk think this would’ve served as a much better story narratively if the romance parts were axed. The crown prince is a literal war criminal (genocide), if Winter dated femC he would be a pedo in my eyes, the brothers would be super awful and incestuous, and Eckles has a really horrible power dynamic with femC because he is literally her slave… romance just doesn’t work for the premise and I am sick and tired of it in the shoujo genre. Also the execution was ass
