the scene in the novel is much more gruesome. she was beaten until she was balled up on the ground and her hair was covered in blood. it was to the point that lev asked her father to stop
i feel like a lot of manhwa downplay the abuse scenes like this. like i get not wanting to draw gore but it really undermines the severity of what the victims go through
You're right! You just reminded me of How To Get My Husband On My Side, the scene where [SPOILER if you haven't read it] her brother beats her up almost to death and everybody finds out about her being abused was SO downplayed in the manhwa where he just kinda struck her once and she fell on a mirror! They should have kept it as horrifying as it was in the novel wtf. And it's not the only time something like that happened, in manhwas they tend to remove a lot of gruesome scenes if they aren't that important to the plot, or they just lighten them up if they're necessary. It just downplays the severity of the situation as you said
yes! it’s the same in I Thought It Was a Common Isekai Story. there’s a scene in the novel that iirc the mc was beaten so badly she spent the following days in absolute misery and had to recover alone. but the manhwa never shows anything like that… just a few marks on her face. it’s such a significant moment to show how much she continues to suffer alone but the scene just… doesn’t play out the same in the manhwa. there’s a huge difference between being slapped around and being beaten into submission.

i think they couldn’t have picked a better artist for this. such an excellent portrayal of making her seem ethereal and creepy and terrifying
