I genuinely think authors need to retire the victim x abuser trope. It’s not cute it’s just sad. It frustrates me that every time I come across a story like that, people react like, “Oh my God, I can’t wait for his redemption arc. I can’t wait to see him fall to his knees, fall in love, realize the error of his ways” blah blah blah. Like please.... It’s tasteless, It gives nothing I seriously can’t wait until more people start to realize that
It’s not romantic, it’s not deep, and we’ve completely lost the plot with the ‘enemies to lovers’ concept. I’ve seen way too many people confuse that trope with straight-up abuser-victim dynamics as if that’s the same thing. It’s not. Not even close.
There’s something disturbing about how comfortable people have become with romanticizing pain, control, and manipulation. The idea that someone who has emotionally, psychologically, or even physically harmed another person can suddenly be redeemed by love isn’t just unrealistic, it’s dangerous.
I wonder if we’ve all collectively lost the plot when it comes to romantic storytelling enemies to lovers is never actually what it is anymore lmao. What once was a fun, dynamic narrative about conflict, tension, and eventual understanding has now been twisted into something unrecognizable. Too often, people conflate ‘enemies’ with ‘abusers’ But those are not the same, one is built on equal opposition and emotional complexity; the other is built on power imbalance and harm. Sighh

There’s nothing romantic about someone ending up with their abuser and I’m sick and tired of people hyping up and popularizing abuse stories. They also say it’s toxic like no that straight up abuse. Toxic relationships only work if they’re both toxic, not when someone’s getting brutally raped by the other. (⊙…⊙ )
So many of these authors writing abilities are straight up fried, they prioritize those scenes instead of good sensible writing and the worst part is that it works (a huge amount of ppl read it i mean). Its gotten much better than it was years ago but its still rough

I swear 90% of the story's these days are becoming abuser x victim or just rapist x victim(basically the same thing), and the story's don't even have a half decent plot, its all just trash with a trash plot and a trash trope. I really wish people would stop producing story's like this and we could go back to the days where this wasn't such a big issue, but unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. I also wish more people would stop consuming and enjoying things like this which is also contributing to the mass production of story's with plots like this. I seriously hate this all so much and just want to be able to enjoy story's again without having to encounter rape or abuse.
It pains me cause I used to be SUCH a huge #1 stan of enemies to lovers like that was MY SHIT but saying that nowadays feels like a crime and people confuses it, mishears it as "yes I love seeing the person who just made the other persons life a living hell get with them and become a sweetie pie out of nowhere" like NO I LOVE RIVALRY THATS IT, ACADEMIC RIVALRY EVEN
