I love it when we think authors are going to give us a story similar to their previous ones, and then they come up with completely new stories, but at the same time, you can still see their essence and narrative style in them. The same thing happened with The Hounds of Sisyphus when, upon introducing Guwon, we thought he was going to be Ahjussi 2.0, and he turned out to be the complete opposite.

Is it because the story is set in that era? Is it because MC comes from a family that owned slaves? Is it because of the line the ML said about being a slave? I'm asking from a place of ignorance, not about the history or the events themselves, but about the feelings it evoke in others. I really want to understand where the anger comes from, and many of the comments are aggressive, like "racist bitch," without any other explanation, even though not much has happened in the story yet. We don't know anything about the characters; the only thing we know about MC is that he fought in the war, his entire family died, he sold everything, and he freed his slaves (and I'm not saying this in a "good thing, the white man freeing slaves" kind of way), but rather as the actions MC is taking before taking his own life. Is it ML's statement that, being biracial or of Native descent, he says he's his slave, that made people so angry? I genuinely want to understand what sparked so much hatred when we've only seen one episode and there hasn't been much interaction between the characters. Or is it simply that JAXX shouldn't have written about this part of the history?

I totally agree with you, I think we should see how the story develops from this point onwards. I too know little about USA history and actually understand what is being said about inaccuracy regarding the slaves' conditions after being legally freed by the American government. From what I remember from history lessons, even though slaves were freed, they still faced discrimination and, in some cases, didn't have a family or a home to return to. Given this, I kind of understand why people were a bit taken back by how these slaves were sent away by the ML. Regarding the last scene, maybe it was a sarcastic line said by the other ML (I'm speculating since we don't know anything about him). Still, what I'm trying to say is people on the Internet should go a bit easier on the author since:
1. We know only 1% of the story so far;
2. I read JAXX other works and enjoyed them very much (and I'm someone with 0 tolerance for toxicity in relationships), and didn't strike me as a problematic author
3. Maybe the author isn't fully aware that their actions can be interpreted as insensitive since, as many people pointed out, they're not black, but Asian.
