To me personally, the first thing that makes a story well written is how developed the characters (especially the main character's thoughts and emotions) and relationships between the main characters and others are. I'll even read a story with a plot that is not really that interesting as long as I have character interactions I'm looking forward to......

'BL' is anything with 'boy's love' so it includes both yaoi and shounen-ai, while 'yaoi' should technically only be used if there's mature content in it (but I think readers call it yaoi either way even if it's shounen ai)

I would say RIGHT NOW, mostly because of BL novels (on Ridibo*ks) rather than manhwa/ga/hua: poly endings are becoming increasingly popular both in BL and in josei and I'M SO HERE FOR IT!!
