This is one of the most well written stories I’ve read in a long time. I love how the story alludes to real historical events (WW1, the roaring 20, the Great Depression, and WW2), and it tells how the characters navigate through these events.

Anyways, for anyone is who curious on how the story will unfold:

Madeline will propose to Ian, but he will not give her an answer. However, their relationship grows while they are in the manor. Isabel gets involved with revolutionists. She will save someone that the government is hunting and hide him in the basement of the manor. She asked Madeline to care for him. Madeline agreed and later gets caught by the police. Ian bribed the judges and tried to get her out of this by telling her to lie in court. Madeline refused and went to jail.

After being released from jail, Madeline moved to the United States to start a new life. One of her jailmates wrote a letter of recommendation for her to work at a grocery store. She then found another job at a hotel as a server. While working there, one of Ian’s friends saw her and reported to him. Ian then comes to the US to see her. This is where their relationship grows more, and they start to date officially. Madeline gets entangled with the mafia in the US, and she got shot. Shortly after that, they decided to move back to England to get married and do the deed.

After 5 years into their marriage, the Great Depression came. This is where they had a lot of miscommunications in their relationship. Ian and Madeline had different goals in their marriage. A lot of companies and banks declared bankruptcy around the world, and the Nottingham’s finances were at risk. They will work it out eventually. Madeline then found out that she’s pregnant and gave birth to a son. He is born deaf, but they love him regardless.

The story ends at the start of WW2. Madeline asked Ian if he still had nightmares about the war (like his previous life). Ian tells her that he dreams of her.
