something that surprised me beside the obvious that being how good the writing & visuals are, how realistic the male lead aka Il-woo is. I've read many bls and *some* of them really just make mls feel like 'the love interest' and nothing more. Nothing wrong with writing your characters however you want, yet I found myself bored and connected more with the main character.....and the author didnt use that 'Im straight but you're the exception' or have the ml be in denial/homophobic for like 90% of the story. Just straight to the point 'I'm gay and I have feelings for you' (he didnt say it like that but gotta summarize and he even told the pretty girl who was trying to get a date w him that he likes guys, he isnt ashamed nor afraid of his sexuality) he has his own flaws & strengths and perhaps his feelings might seem too quick for someone who has given up on life but in his own words 'I like people who are warm' basically his entire confession in 26 on why he likes Baekhee. Once you connect with someone and start to really *look* at them (not to mention the physical attraction he developed) it's easy for love to come fourth. Though feelings itself are a strange thing....not that I can understand it either
I love how strong our main character, Jang Baekhee is too, even with all his suffering from his abusers (that coercive waste of sperm and piece of shit father) he still extends kindness even if he owns little to nothing and just tries to survive...even feeling sorry for Kim Jintae (side character) telling him to quit commiting crimes, in his own inner thoughts in chapter 15 'pitiful idiot,he's going to live like that his whole life'. He's not a saint but he's certainly trying his best. A teenager with a soft heart who just wants a normal life...even if it means sacrificing his happiness and autonomy. Anyone who wants to live will hold onto a rope even if its a rope filled with thorns, if that's all he's known and manipulated to believe thats all he'll have who would blame him for not trusting a fragile but thornless rope?
since this is a flashback sequence it's pacing perfectly matches, when remebering we dont have the entire day memorized mostly signifcant segments (though not all memories are like that of course) same with their interactions...I'm pretty surprised that Il-woo's cousins werent a bigger threat unless we see something in the future (something something like how a villain would be like "YOU THOUGHT I WAS DONE FUCKER?" algo asi) but it also makes sense I mean they cant actually kill him, theyd go to jail....so mostly it was a revenge beating. They fucked up my boy though. Since we're in Il-woo's persepctive we havent seen the extent of what abuse Baekhee would have been enduring that time alone. And even if we did get his persepctive because of the trauma he might not even narrate that part or downplay the severity? Who knows but we'll get to see them on a nice fun trip before hell.

This trip will teach them both something important. Baekhee will realize he shouldnt sacrifice his happiness and dignity for his survival and plant a seed of courage and hope. Though they will separate again that seed cannot be removed and will slowly bloom into something anew,slowly but it will bloom.
Il-woo's love for Baekhee will make him want to keep living, to imagine not just this trip but a lifetime forever w Baekhee. As someone who was like Il-woo with a suicidal urge for years, I switched up quickly once I discovered my love for reading which left me too attached to let go. Same goes for his love....he'd do anything for him even something as painful and revolting as living.
so even if it seems like a fast change of resolve, thats simply how us humans are. One second you have no hope and another you're eating a homecooked meal thinking to yourself that you'll be okay. And then another day welcomes you
Go gyeom will find out he's gone
as for what will happen (my guess)
he will have his friends jump Il-woo and threathen Baekhee w blackmail and violence
and Baekhee with all the guilt and sorrow he has, it'll be a horror movie come to life, seeing Il-woo in that state and leave with Gyeom for his sake (not to mention the threat of his dad)
maybe Gyeom would be pissed enough to physically hurt Baekhee and drag him to Seoul leaving an also beaten Il-woo alone
Maybe Gyeom would even reveal that Baekhee's dad killed Il-woo's ??? IDK I doubt that'd happen but maybe
it would be a intense painful blow for them both
they will separate and find each other again.....they will be free and happy ....
