oh, so this was queerbait, I felt kinda lost reading this considering it had a bl tag, and that the plot was so far from the actual mc and instead focuses on what's happening with the other characters, I don't see much interaction with our gloomy x sunshine trope as well, or maybe this is just slowburn???

I bawled my eyes out man. I think for me, the ending was serene, yes it was sad, it was somewhat unusual, but it was a bittersweet reality and a sign of their everlasting love even before the afterlife.
