When Alex killed Nathan Weaver (the senator candidate’s son), he turned to shoot Brett. Hayden jumped in the way and got shot in the arm. Brett picked up Nathan’s phone and saved the videos. Brett wanted Alex to feel that pain, so he gave Alex evidence (the phone) that showed that Nathan as abusive and agreed to testify as such, thus make Alex more sympathetic to the public and trial so he would receive a shorter sentence. In exchange Brett required Alex to shoot himself in the arm as revenge for Hayden.
The candidate Weaver lost his re-election when the video was released and also realized why Brett was supporting Alex’s side in the trial and how Alex got the video. He decided to hire homeless thugs to rape Brett and planned to use the video as blackmail. Brett decided to play the long game to target the Weavers, so he didn’t report it. Brett hid that he got raped from Hayden and went on a date. When Brett told Hayden everything just before his testimony, Haden was upset with Brett’s calculations, and dismissiveness of his own rape, and felt untrusted. They argued about their perspectives and Brett ended the relationship.
Later, Brett’s father stepped in and finished off the Weavers’ reputation and career.

The only thing i still dont get is why brett helped him when he was so pissed at him. Being in jail longer would have been worse than getting shot or he woulnt haveagreed to the deal.
Brett knows Alex did what he did for a reason (Alex was abused). Brett is still a good person, you know. Like how he helped that pink/blonde hair omega who we're so sick of reading (lol). He only wanted Alex to feel the same pain Hayden felt (which was getting shot in the arm). And he wanted Alex to do it to himself. Because Alex already shot Nathan when he decided to also point the gun to Brett. That bullet was supposed to be for him. Hayden saved Brett. Brett even asked Alex why he was going to shoot him. Apparently, there's also this hate he feels towards Brett. Anyway (who cares about Alex), basically Brett wanted Alex to know that what he did to Hayden was sht and he should do the same thing to himself. Brett thinks that that is his justice. So Hayden got mad that Brett basically did all of these (and got rped too) for him.
