You could've had all these things while keeping the MC's comedic and light hearted veneer but I feel like this is being written while forgetting what came before.
I'm so happy there wasn't really a romance here. A traumatized adult being groomed and a very messy family dynamic that aided in his isolation. I'm glad his friend didn't become a romantic interest. Even if he was interested in him, he wasn't ready for a relationship.
