Anyway! I don't think the relationship between MC and the professor is romantic. I think the build up so far between them is more towards making them sibling-esque. I think the ML will be Gilles.
That said, the professor's fiance allowing her maid to treat MC badly just isn't a good look, lol.
The only reason why ppl feel sorry for Vaye/Valle is because he's drawn to be handsome.
I kind of like when artists draw genuinely awful characters to be physically attractive, because it really shows how much more tolerant readers are towards that kind of behaviour when the one doing it looks good.
