It was soo promising and chaotic.
It got a little boring in the middle since it seems both tops were obsessed with the bottoms for no reason. They just felt a connection and just wanted to be with them?
The little personality they had in the beginning got erased by idiot couple syndrome and got bland.
This is perfect if you are horny, want beautiful art, or love the whole "i can change him" type of troupe. If you want characters with decent morals, Joo Jaekyung is NOT IT. Kim Dan was a victim through and through.
Jaekyung backstory and change when he realized he like Dan was cute, but he did such horrendous stuff before it's really hard to overlook.
Chapters 1 - 60: straight up rape and abuse
Chapters 60 - 70: Dan grows a spine
Chapter 70-90: Jaekyung "justification" of his asshole tendencies (sob backstory) and Dan actually standing having some dignity to stand up for himself
Chapter 90 - 102: Jaekyung feeling guilty and wishy washy over his feelings because he has no right to be with Dan (rightfully so) because he treated him like utter trash. Dan also getting mixed signals from Jaekyung. Some actual cute moments.
PRO TIP: It would probably be better to just start reading at chapter 70 - 102, because there are so many flashbacks to the abuse, it might make reading it more palatable. I'm so glad I marinated this because suffering for years waiting for this is not the right move
Y’all this is literally the Mingwa special. This is the BJ Alex formula.and in the end it’s iconic and famous for a reason (BJ Alex also being an og in the BL manhwa rise and why she made the same formula for this story). Not saying it’s right but I expected it 100% bc it worked exactly well the first time
??? rape is rape Caesar shot lee won, zhenya drugged raped n kidnapped taekjoo, taeju raped euihyun or wtv his name was I can assure u jaekyung doesn't have the harshest personality. I'm saying jaekyung did not rape kim dan. but seungho, taeju, zhenya,Caesar all raped their bottoms but ppl don't flame them as much as they do jaekyung. reading comprehension is a curse to bl readrs just throwing around the term rape if someone signed a contract and gave consent, their decision making wasn't impaired, they weren't under the influence of alcohol or drugs and is a lehal adult, its not rape. Kim Dan isn't the "precious baby" ppl make him out to be he's a man. anyways even if jaekyung was the slowest to change idgaf he didnt rape nobody sure he's a red flag turned yellow/green n was quote on quote abusive or wtv he's incomparable to those actual rapists. the worst thing jaekyung did was have heesung walk in on kim Xposed w/o him knowing that wasn't okay, wasn't rape, but is not excusable.
Funny you mention all of those popular titles, because I have not read ANY of them. I am strictly talking about THIS series.
Jinx is literally the old format of BL troupes of rape the ML, treats them like shit, then ML slowly falls in love with after learning he has another side. Jinx is a 2000's BL plot published in a 2020's world.
I'm really interested in what bigger issues we need to focus on other than abuse and rape?
Not trying to be rude but calling BJ Alex an OG BL when it came out in 2017 (⊙…⊙ )
If you're talking about their formula, that worked in 2017, because we had trash selections. I guarantee you Jinx would have been HUGE if it was published 10 years ago, but in this day and age where we have other BL masterpieces, it was disappointing. With this art, it could've EASILY been the best.
Truthfully, I'm mourning the potential this manwha had
I'm glad you were able to see that.
Tbh, there are many BLs that glamorize rape to make it super dubious consent.
I'm not against people reading about fictional rape and abuse, I'm more bothered and concerned by the fact that some fans are so disillusioned that they cannot what is and what isn't consent. Or the fact that they blatantly choose to ignore the red flags and cannot be objective to the facts
When I re-read Love is an Illusion, I finally realized I was in the wrong.
SPOILERS FOR LOVE IS AN ILLUSION:
I always thought Hyesung was so trash for leaving the baby, but after re-reading years later, he was not in the wrong. Dojin was always the one jumping him. Maybe it was because Hyesung was not entirely likeable because he was a little dumb and whiny, but the fact remains he was the victim this entire time. I just felt he was annoying and didn't read it from an objective lens. Now a few years later, Dojin is definitely a red flag, and we forgive it (or ignore it) since he seems to be so doting.
END OF SPOILERS
Really made me realize how the time, and perspectives can change :)
Hars in personality means his actions. Yes, showing his vulnerable side without his knowing to other ppl is one of it. 24/7 yelling. Almost 80 chapters IGNORING "no" and "please stop". Yes.
And as i said i only read some of that fully out of those that the first commenter mentioned. It matters that soneones a dick for some chapters overall or throughout the whole fucking manhwa. And every top raped their bottoms, period. That is not the one you should measure.
You can literally see when BL Manhwa started getting popular: https://www.reddit.com/r/boyslove/comments/umaqdb/i_made_a_bl_timeline_of_popular_works_from/ Killing Stalking really brought BL Manhwa attention but is of course controversial violent and mainly shock, BJ Alex absolutely was the first big popular one hand in hand and was ABSOLUTELY more palatable. It put the genre, and Min*wa on the biggest stage, the genre became big because of it and to doubt that is uneducated. Jinx is literally the second biggest BL manhwa EVER, and it would NOT have gotten that big on pure art and story alone - the fact that so many people stayed to read through the shyt you discussed here is a FULL testament to people reading BJ Alex and wanting the redemption arc she did so well in BJ Alex
Girl, I've also been reading since 2008 too (junjou romantica era LOL).
I usually just group all BL in one category, but if you are talking about BL manwha specifically then yes, it was one of the older titles for sure.
I mainly read through jinx because art was nice, and there were a lot of memes about it. I feel a lot of manwha author's work don't really have as much consistency as manga authors tbh, so I read them separately from each other and don't expect the same thing as BJ Alex.
I still feel that Jaekyung did too much for him to be redeemable. If he was like 20% less of an asshole, then it might have been perfect. His sobstory "redemption" arc was good, his remorse was good, but his behavior was too damaged. What would you give jinx then? Again, I really wanted it to be good
I hated Hyesung so much, and I only read the rest of the series for the side couples because they were ELITE. Byul is such a red flag, I hope he doesn't turn out like Hyesung... Then again the other spin-off bombed when it had so much potential so I'ma brace myself ( ̄へ ̄)
I think you’re the one who’s lacking emotional understanding of these characters. And yes, a sheltered kid who grew up in a loving family, being spoiled left and right by everyone around him, can indeed lack self-awareness, as most teenagers do, even young adults aged 20-24. They literally just got out of their teenage phase, and they won’t suddenly mature overnight just because of their age. So, if a young adult still struggles with maturing, let alone a 17-year-old high school kid.
Ironically, the way you perceive Byul’s character shows limited self-awareness about the nature of teenage emotional growth.

I want to start the ZIG Omegaverse manwha series, do I need to read this? I'm on Chapter 5 and its sooo hard to sit through. Both characters have no redeeming qualities, art isn't that great? Can someone convince I don't need to read this?
That depends on what exactly you want to read. From Zig's omegaverse only "Kiss me liar", "Kiss me if you can", "Kiss the scumbag", and "Desire me if you can" have a manhwa adaption.
"Kiss me if you can" and "Desire me if you can" belong to the same series and "Kiss me Liar" to a different one of which so far only one title was released. "Kiss the scumbag" is a standalone.
Since we're talking about the manhwa adaptions, the problem is that those left out a lot of things, even general informations. Especially "Kiss me if you can" is problematic because of that, if you are aware of it.
Because of that I actually would read Kiss me liar first, but if you don't care about it skip it. Just be aware that some characters appeared first in Kiss me liar, and that Kiss me if you can misses some general information, which wasn't the smartest idea by those who adapted it to manhwa.
I wanted to read the manwha adapctations, and I saw that this was one of the first in the universe but it's supposed to be minimally related to the other stories. I think Rose and Champagne was also part of the universe? I'm also confused on the chronology because I like reading them according to release date, but it seems lots of the adaptations are currently ongoing
No, only the 4 titles I mentioned are omegaverse and same universe, the others are not.
That author writes webnovels, and I actually read her omegaverse webnovels.
The first the author released was "Kiss me liar" ( manhwa adaption of the main story is finished, but not of the side stories), but the very first story she came with was released much later: "Desire me if you can" (Grayson's story), which is actually chorologically the last of the Miller series.
Those are omegaverse + same universe
"....if you can" series ( Miller family):
Kiss me if you can (manhwa adaption)
Lick me up if you can
Eat me up if you can (chronologically the first)
Desire me if you can (manhwa adaption, chronologically the last)
Run away if you can
Deflower me if you can
(all of them are released as webnovels)
Release order and chronological in this case are not the same. Even the first story the author came up with she released much later. "Desire" was the very first omegaverse story she came up with, but released it only last year. Of this series she first released "Kiss me if you can", but that takes place around the same time as "Run away " and "Deflower", which she released last ( I think she orginally wanted to release them before "Desire" but "Run away" was pushed back 3 times.). "Lick me up" is the story of the parents and "Eat me up" of the grandparents.
You need to know that she planned those series (...if you can and kiss me...) before she started releasing them.
"Kiss me.." ( Angel and his 5 sons with 5 DA):
"Kiss me liar" (manhwa adaption, takes place around the same time as KMIYC, RAIYC, and Deflower)
"Kiss me villains"
"Kiss me bait"
"Kiss me my sweet heart"
"Kiss me my ugly duckling"
"Kiss me my savage lover"
(only one was released as a webnovel so far, maybe next year, since she is now done with the Millers main stories)
Standalones ( but other characters have cameos/are side characters):
Kiss the stranger
Kiss my grits
Kiss the scumbag
(released as webnovels)
Henry x Isaac of KMIYC so far only announced.
Connections of the "...if you can" to "Kiss me..."
Grayson Miller and Keith Pittman are friends since Kindergarten, other than that the omega partners of are friends. And the Dominant alpha family know each other.
