I've read the novel years ago and as I remember, MC did confess (successfully in his POV) but ML thought MC wasn't like serious abt their relationship at all even though MC prepared a ring and ML also accepted it lol. Btw, ML even dropped the fact that he was gonna get married soon but as MC clarified things for real ML just said sth like don't worry, it's for business, I'll get divorce right after marriage. I don't remember much but what happens after was kinda rushed but they end up being lovely dovey
