I’ve come to the conclusion that this author is either really young, like hasn’t been through college, or has never had real human experiences or interactions. Her characters are so detached from any inkling of reality. No growth, no maturity, nothing. Absolutely nothing. Her idea of growing uo is ‘suae has a perfect life with a great job and support system yet remains unfulfilled because ex from high school isn’t there.’ Like wtf.

If you want to read a great story with deeply fleshed out characters that actually display human like personalities and personal journeys go read Cheese in the Trap. Don’t torture yourself with this bullshit.

You can tell Soonki has actually lived life and puts a very human touch into her characters.

As someone clase to their age I can don't believe Sooae feels unfulfilled but perhaps she feels exhausted from a cluster of things as a teen. Raim, Minu, Euhyeok, her parents and the Dohwa. I think she is burnt out trusting others. Now i don't understand eunhyeok etc even with family trauma. I believe dohwa has close ones but here it shows that he still experiences not wanting to get close to others due to the popularity. Like i dont think he told people about his real background. I can believe he is still in that predicament.

It is hard to think all of them became successful with kind of the same issues though or even thinking about the other this strongly though.

_beca_66 October 4, 2025 8:03 am

Can we talk about how fucking weird and UNREALISTIC it is that’s he’s in love with (teen!!!) suae. He doesn’t even know her anymore. Just think about it. Relationships don’t work like this in real life. They were together for less than a year. Apart for 10. I had bff in hs, never talked to her in college after a falling out, ran into her recently. I have no idea who she is and it’s barely been 2 years. This story is genuinely getting so fucking annoying….

Also, if you’re still hung up on a romance you had in high school at your 30 years of age. Grow up? It is genuinely such loser and ‘peaked in high school’ behavior. Lowk pedophilic. This is exactly how Lolita plays out. Dude was hung up on his 14 y/o romance and became obsessed with finding her in every 14 year old girl he met until he died. It’s fucking sick and deplorable.

This author is so uninteresting, clearly not very well-read, and painfully CLICHEEEEEE.

Such lost potential with the novel and jellypop plot points. Tak tsk.

    NAZ October 4, 2025 8:08 am

I don't think it's that related to pedophilia but they really should grow up both of them

Ya, i just made an outlandish comparison but it genuinely is fucking weird

    HELPMELMAO October 4, 2025 9:08 am

yeah i get that too but i just thought he was recalling nostalgia and how teen suae is really the only version of suae that he fully knew, he doesnt know the adult one that well yet striking similarities makes him think about the past

_beca_66 September 24, 2025 9:37 am

So she’s learned to finally let him go. She’s set ln moving past the past. Her arc seems complete. Now we’re seeing her move forward with her life.

Eunhyeok - He’s clearly still hung up on the past. The story will probably revolve him overcoming his trauma and also moving on with his life.

Dohwa - a real mystery tbh. What’s the point of him as a character? He’s been nothing more than a friend to our mc the whole time. Even now, they don’t seem to be 100% friends, but working towards it. Little by little. Other than that? What’s going on with him?

Marang - the author finally closed that chapter. Bankruptcy. A pretty good excuse to mever talk about jellypop anymore.

The story as a whole. What’s the point? If it’s healing and learning to let go. We’re 1/3 of the way there(we’d need to get inside dohwas mind a but more to confirm a solind 2/3 of the way there…)

Romance? The jdea of her getting back w Eunhyeok would completely contradict the current “moving on and letting go” setup. Also, it’s unappetizing. No one in her circle likes him. He’s a jerk for abandoning everyone. Like, hello? It’s the 21st century. We have text messaging, instant calls, AND letters for christ sake. If she were to fall for dohwa, can the author even writer a compelling and original love story for them? We know she’s liked her because he feels she’s the only person that has got to truly know him, but not her. She’s never been on the same wavelength. She’s never appreciated his friendship or company the way he has. It’d be a slippery slope. Uneven dynamic.

Anyway. This story is kinda bs like everyone said. Love the art tho

    shortcake September 27, 2025 1:15 am

This comment is so real lol

_beca_66 September 17, 2025 7:27 am

It goes without saying that this storyline is morally abhorrent.

Anyway, I present my theories through a psychological and capitalistic lense.

First things first, this story will NOT be about romance. In the slightest. This story will be more about the lives of the ultra-mega wealthy chaebol’s and how they will balance power dynamics, control, and possibly the internal politics of the Hotel’s heir-clave (derived from conclave LOL), ALL while a poor (and i mean it in the economic sense) man is brought into the middle of it.

The first thing we have to do as the audience is detach these characters from our typical understanding of humans as empathetic, social beings. Rich people are not the same as the typical person in two primary ways: their styles of living and their interpersonal relationships. Every relationship is 1000x more transactional, superficial, and driven by material gain and/or often twisted desires. Just take a look at any billionaire is our world to confirm this.

I agree with another commenter about the mother being evil. We can debate her motives once we get more information, but one thing is clear. She is not a good mother. Subjecting your child to watching/hearing you have se>< can be considered se><ual abus3. If our main character were younger, she could have very easily been emotionally and mentally scarred for life. I’ve read cases about this in real life, it’s really sick and saddening.

On to our main character, she’s clearly not all mentally well. The ways she “crashed” out and harmed herself is a clear indication of that. We might find out more about these impulses later. My best guess is that either something traumatic to do with her childhood or, given the circumstances of her ultra-privileged upbringing, it’s simply one of the quirks she developed under the circumstances of her upbringing. This specific analysis is heavily influenced by my recent viewing of The Piano Teacher. Ha.

In regards to, her situation with her childhood friend, they seem to be casual sexual partners more than anything. Again, no romance. Just a physical outlet to let out the many stresses of their absurdly privileged lives. I’m being a little sarcastic here, but it could be said wealthier children tend to lack proper emotional support from their parents out of an overemphasis on materialism.

It’s obviously implied that Yeonwoo and her will start messing around eventually. This is where the power war between mother and daughter/ daughter and man will be played. There are definite bdsm undertones to this story.

Now, Yeonwoo. Given that he most likely worked as a prostit*te (is there a male-gendered term for that?) before he got picked up by MC mamma, we know he’s probably lived a hard life and sees mom as a way out. Him begging and crying signals towards his past of abu$e, explo1tation, and other things of the sort. Out of all the characters, I believe he will be the one to display the most “humanly” behaviors: like love. I predict he’ll fall in love with MC, but more so along the lines of Stockholm syndrome given the power imbalances.

Overall, the art is gorgeous and I think this story has the potential to portray a very raw display of the ruling/capitalist/burguoise class literally toying (;O) with the poor/working/exploited/ proletariat class.

Interesting.

Am i the only one curious about jiyun’s story?

I hope the author writes something up for him.

Im theorizing here, but even if he accepts his own feelings, what will happen to him at the end if the year?

Perhaps a split personality for jiyun in the real world?

Okay, I’m going to focus on S3 because that is the most convoluted season of the three. I will quickly add that despite heavy dramatizations here and there in S1 and 2, they were pretty solid in their plot, character development, story building etc. I really did enjoy them a lot.

Now, S3 -_-

I mean it was fine. It was. If we get into the nitty gritty though. It was pretty bad by this author’s standards.
I know they’re capable of crafting a great story with incredibly complex characters, to a point where they’re almost chillingly real, but it seems that in this season the author kind of forgot who Cirrus was along with some others in her cast. For the first time in the story, I felt like I couldn’t understand their actions anymore. In some parts it almost didn’t feel like the characters I had grown to love in S1 and 2.
Also, more than a story, it felt like a collection of moments. Which can be masterfully executed if done well, but here it really just felt like simply that. Moments in their lives. Unresolved conflicts, and if resolved, in an unsatisfactory or underwhelming way. I wouldn’t really blame the author on this particularly. I think it’s more of a circumstance of the setting.

The author, in their beat attempt, tried to tie things up nicely, but it doesn’t work because at the end of the day, these are still high school kids. You don’t have everything figured out by 18. It would be foolish to think that everything in Cirrus’ and Skylar’s lives was resolved by the time they graduated highschool. I think that’s my biggest critique of this story: there wasn’t enough time to bring everything together because they are atuck at the high school age.

I think S3 would have worked much better if it had been a collection of moments of their ADULT lives.

I really did enjoy s1 and 2 so much, bringing tears to my eyes even. But it’s auch a shame that the growth and story of these characters was stumped by the setting in such a large way. Also, I am inclined to believe that the authors health and factors such as time and publishing pressures could have contributed to the plateu of this story.

But hey, at least we know Cirrus and Skylar are happy. Even if we don’t know the extent of it.

it felt like the author wanted this series to end there’s still a lot of loopholes to be honest.

Yeah this is a big factor into the decline in quality of the series. I feel like at the end the author was even fed up, possibly not even proud of their own work because of the strict no side stories. Usually when you love something you have created you have a hard time letting it go, but in this case, well we all know that anticlimactic ending.

This is such a shitty review have u not even read the Author’s Note?! She knew exactly where to end the story and how. Also the couple is living happily and pretty much fine she confirmed this in an Italian event too.
