So he’s able to sell alcohol, which I think you have to be 18 to sell in Japan. Which makes him at least a senior in high school, and she’s just freshly 20. So that means there’s not even really much of an age gap so much as a “time of life” gap. It is a little weird that he’s a high schooler working in a place that sells alcohol, but I’ve also seen stories where the student gets with their teachers, which could be anywhere over a 10-year age gap. Which is gross when you’re still a minor.
I’m not saying it’s otherwise normal for a newly legal adult to become attracted to someone who’s still in high school (I had friends who were still in high school when I was her age), but at least he’s OVER 18, as he said himself.
If he proves to be under that, yeah, I might drop it because he lied about his age, but other than that I feel like this might not be too bad of a story ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’m not usually one for age gaps like this, BUT the guy is 26 and has pretty much been in love with this guy for probably most of his life. Yeah, it was kinda weird that Himemiya is 43 since I expected a somewhat smaller age gap, BUT the MC is a full-grown adult and they’re getting to know each other. There’s no using either’s age as a weapon, and Himemiya is actually flattered MC is so obviously devoted to him. He’s not preying on MC, just because some people aren’t into age gaps doesn’t mean every single one should be demonized, this is a whole other situation of a guy who finally gets to meet his idol as AN ADULT. I’m actually GLAD he’s 26 and not a teenager, because I’ve seen something like that before and it made my skin crawl.
Also, Himemiya is so down-to-earth and not being weird about all this (even though this is a very weird scenario irl), so I give them my full support and I’m excited to see how MC goes about wooing him (▰˘◡˘▰)

Honestly, reading some of these comments makes me wonder if y’all remember how difficult it is to speak up for yourself not only harassing someone the way Takahashi is, or how difficult it is to bring it up to your partner when you feel like YOU are somehow in the wrong.
Being a quiet person with a mellow disposition like the MC is not easy when dealing with frustrating situations such as Takahashi being a bitch and not taking no for an answer, or being bullied by your classmates. It is not easy, and yes I know it’s a trope that’s a beaten horse, but like … I remember having such a difficult time just like her because I was quiet in school for the most part. It takes time to build your backbone and learn ways around social anxiety, it doesn’t just happen overnight.
Is she a doormat? Yeah, kind of, but she’s a TEENAGER that’s still learning. Yes it’s shoujo, so she’s gonna be a little more air headed in the beginning, but she’s slowly growing, which I prefer in younger characters because it’s more realistic. But that’s just not everybody’s tea, and that’s okay ╮(￣▽￣)╭
Why couldn’t he have been only 10 years older, why 20 (That doesn’t mean him hitting on a high schooler at 28 would’ve been less weird, it’s still weird af), but like, come ooooonnnn

He was using the novels as REFERENCE, get your head out of your ASS and your nose out of their RELATIONSHIP. I know Thea’s your sister, but holy shit, if he’s actually doing something to try to make their marriage work and hasn’t been sus outside of interactions with her, then you shouldn’t be interfering!!!

This reminds me of a high school version of Scent and Soap (I think that’s the English name??). He’s devoted to making perfumes so a lot of what he does is approached with an … odder way than usual compared to others. The ML in S&S was the same, so focused on creating new scents that most sense of decorum went out the window depending on the situation with the FL. I feel like the setting is very similar with this story, with a FL who appreciates his devotion in a way that catches the ML’s eye by pure chance, which unfolds to their budding relationship.
HOWEVER, I feel like a lot of the story gets muddled because of the translation, which def doesn’t help with the flow between scenes. I’m not knocking the translator’s work, because I know sometimes it’s not always done by someone whose first language is English, it’s just a note of it. I feel like this story has potential if you like cliché romance tropes (which this does have, and I can appreciate them for high school romances).
Sometimes difficult problems have simple solutions. Man’s was probably wound too tight and didn’t realize it, plus other surrounding factors that helped ╮(￣▽￣)╭
I know Google Translate screenshots when I see it, I use it all the time on sites in other languages. Come on, could’ve at least cleaned up the translation a little in Paint or something
But only until volume 5, I have no idea how it ends, and it’s been over a decade :,)
