Honestly this pisses me off more cuz he went through all of that and proceeded to treat someone who went through similar things (extreme poverty) horribly. Even though he received so much kindness from his coach, when it was his turn to help someone in need he proceeded to treat Dan like an object. His trauma is valid but it doesn’t make me feel bad for the CURRENT him. He had the opportunity to grow and change as a person and just never did.. get therapy bro
EXACTLY!!! how out of touch can you be, seeing Dan being in the similar position as you in the past and treat him like this. he has a soft spot for elderly, but can't treat a person that showed him nothing but kindness like a human? the only explanation I can think of is that he's so far up his ass, seeing someone that reminds him of his pathetic days makes him angry, especially that Dan seems like a "pushover" to him(aka being KIND lmao), so he takes out his insecurities on him. even if that's the case, he's just a piece of shit. I get that he had a rough childhood, but NOTHING will justify the pain he caused Dan "just because"
I totally get you, and I’m not making excuses for his past behaviour. But have you ever seen or known a family where one parent was an alcoholic, and when the kids grew up, one became an alcoholic just like their parent, and the other never touched a drop in their life? That’s what this is — a flip of the coin. Circumstances shape people, and in his case, I think his mum pushing him away probably played a big part in why he’s so indifferent to hurting people. Kids learn how to behave from their parents, and they also learn how to love from them — or from whoever steps in as that parental figure. So yes, he should have known how treating people like that would feel, but did he really have a good upbringing? Did he ever get reprimanded for hurting people, or was that just how he survived — mentally and physically? Honestly, he’s just running on that “hurt people before they hurt you” kind of mentality.
It’s shitty behavior but there are reasons behind it, but never an excuse.
I completely agree with you!! The cycle of abuse is a very unfortunate thing and yeah it’s not an excuse for his current behavior but moreso the reason that he’s acting like this, I’m just mad because the way the story is going i really don’t think he’s going to properly reflect on his actions and the “redemption” is going to be Dan taking pity on him for his past or something similar (hopefully I’m wrong tho!!) regardless tho, I will always hate him because he’s literally a rapist I do not give a shit what his sob story is, it unfortunately made him become a terrible person
