I mean aro ace people exist. Sexuality is a complex topic. A lot of people (me included) still don't really understand fully their sexualities and the way they are attracted to people. So there's that, even though in this specific case it's clearly not what is going on.
Plus if I remember correctly it was pretty much made explicit that Jaeyi is selfish, avoidant and finds unfruitful conversation and clingy people truly bothersome. That's why he's a bit confused about the way he's acting with Ideum. However, since he's more instinctual and impulsive than cautious and introspective, he keeps going because he feels good about it.
There are also feelings that are starting to get involved, with the connection they are creating by talking and sharing their spaces. But, once again, he's not used to think much of other people, so he's just following what feels good, and not connecting the dots.
