Brown? They are tanned. They stay under the sun a lot more doing hard labor. Even the ML is slightly tanned. I think the MC and a very few priests or concubines are fair skinned, mainly because they stay more indoor and always protected by palm/umbrella.

Its always the delicate fair skinned mc and the broodish tanner ml, even when the mc is tanned he's not seen as "feminine" and all the servants looking like they got dipped in the same same cup of coffee doesn't help. But they work under the sun?! It is melamine. It would have make no sense for them being fair skinned. And the MC is treated as a deity, always covered/sheltered... he is barely never exposed to the sun. It is biology 101.
lol I agree, in France being light skinned was seen as a beauty standard by nobless because it showed that you didnt work, unlike farmers who worked under the sun. That is why they were always carring umbrellas. The author might have thought like that. I'm not in their head tho so I can't know for sure but its what I think.

this conversation is so weird to me bcoz, yes, i do think Sam-myeong needs to take a teennnyyy bit of accountability for "encouraging" Chang-gyeon's crazy behavior bcoz, by his own admission, he wanted to be the person Chang-gyeon relied on soley and its very probable that, that materialize in his care for chang nd i believe it contributed to his dependence on Sam-myeong but, lets be honest Chang-gyeon was always gonna be obsessed with someone, thats jus his character design nd that coupled with the insaneee abuse he endured for years, it was inevitable.
