Pretty much, yep. I think its confusing because the pacing is kinda everywhere and the plot makes no sense at times, so I get it.
I think probably because old man used the magic again but on both themselves so the MC was affected by it and lost his memories again
Kind of. MC ends up in the novel without the memories of the original Satin, so he pretends to have amnesia while remembering most of the novel plot. Then during the escape from the fire MC struggles with dark mage whose spell goes wrong and somehow dark mage turned into that senile/near comatose old man and our MC forgot everything he had experienced as Satin until that point. So basically MC thinks he reincarnated into a sewer with his grandpa for some reason and only later understood (again) that it's the world of a novel he knows. When MC met Kane who told him how they survived the fire, he realizes that he is that evil Satin from the novel, not just someone with the same name. But because MC doesn't remember what he and Kane experienced together, he feels guilty for taking Satin's place (even though it was MC all along, he just doesn't remember).
