Even if she decided to keep writing the manhwa and just made it for LezhinKR (like WebtoonsKR did with Get Schooled) it still wouldn’t have deep world building because that is not the focus— the romance, sexual tension, sex—are *not only* the important parts of the story but as well as the only focus of said story; going by her track record of her other series. And the lack of world building when it comes to this era or others isn’t limited to Jaxx only (outside BLs & as well as BLs set in said era) manhwas set in renaissance era (especially ones without transmigration) don’t go deep into world building or heavy into social class —- because the era/world building is not important (hence the Oda comment). Also Jaxx is not the first nor the last manhwa author to place a story in the Civil War, the same applies to other war eras. There are other mangas and manhwas that are based in the Civil War, so to state that it will never happen is ridiculous. Finally Oda gets harassed too and made fun very often on social media(if you are not apart of OP fandom or fan of OP you wouldn’t be aware); and it’s a pretty popular notion that a lot of One Piece fans aren’t fans of Oda.
I know what you mean, I agree she isn't world building, that doesn't change the fact that this was her story, in a setting she probably did research before hand. The Civil War is no secret after all. Regardless the hate probably made her doubt her story and now it's canceled. Which is what? Hate to break it to you but the Civil War is an easy to understand and very black and white type of war; just like the level of harm and cruelty as the Korean & Vietnam war type of black & white. But also she stated she didn’t do enough research when it comes to the context of slavery/“post” slavery in regards to the Civil War. Because like I said it’s very B&W with one sided being the physical, mental, emotional etc toll it took on a lot of soldiers and the side that affected African Americans. The trauma of war could have easily been applied without the slavery especially if it was going to be done in a half ass way. This is the very first chapter the chapter that is supposed the grab the audience and set the stage/tone for the rest of the season—-it fail terribly flat especially with people that can truly understand the gravity of issue. I honestly think she bring back these characters without the slavery and if it’s still in there then there seriously needs to be enough space to tackle his privilege (class & race) & the harm his family caused.
The Civil wasn't black and white, it was actually very great which is why it's a very important even in American history. song of the wasteland was likely going to be poorly equipped to address the white supremacy and racial hierarchy/dynamics of the time period, just based on the choice of characters and dynamic to focus on, and the way that it attempts to sidestep the presence of Black people during the time period by writing them out of the narrative- but not without first using them as props to portray the white MC as especially virtuous for his time in the eyes of modern readers. it's that choice of framing and focus for a romance plot against the backdrop of the post-civil war period that raised eyebrows. it's not a neutral choice to create a white MC and focus on his wartime trauma from this particular war, and it's not a neutral choice to depict an indigenous man with blue eyes and to put those words in his mouth. people can pick up on undertones and match them to patterns they have seen before.
criticism is a valid and essential way to engage with media. just because some people take a tone and intensity that you find 'too much', doesn't negate the substance of what they say. maybe it would not have played out as badly as people are fearing, but the author's decision to withdraw the series should be respected. they couldn't take the heat of the response, so they got out of the kitchen.

Fir st and foremost, I would like to say that I do not condone the death threats or wishing harm on her and her team for this manhwa. With that being said, I think the legitimate concerns and criticisms of this series were valid, and needed to be discussed and heard. It’s just a shame that with the legitimate concerns and criticisms in regards to racism within the series, has been taken over due to the threats and wishing harm; as well as the people not involved with the context of the story, race wise taken over the conversation and saying that people should be OK with a bastardized version history even if it’s fiction. I find this double standard extremely hypocritical and insensitive specially when there have been multiple cases where if the shoe was on the other end in regards to South Koreans, their boycott, outrage, concerns and criticism were taken seriously and respected for example. Take the Starbucks protest that is happening now people are supporting them because Starbucks ignorantly disrespected their history in regards to surrounding of a symbol and another incident would be with my hero academia when it came to the doctor character and how we author had to change the doctors name due to bastardization of history towards South Koreans that was horrific even within a fictional world. I do think that these characters have a chance to come back if the settings have changed, but even if we have given her more time to write the story out, there were too many layers within the plot and within the characters backgrounds that would have set this manhwa up for failure. She did right by canceling the manhwa and hopefully she can bring these characters back right and respectfully.
Finally, any idea that the Westerners can take over and not properly allow a series or calling for censorship is ridiculous. When there are serious that have been called out for racism. They’re still active just not active internationally. For example, the manhwa Get Schooled schooled it was removed from international WEBTOON‘s website, but it was still active on the Korean WEBTOON‘s website and it was so popular that Netflix picked it up and made it a TV series. They changed the name because they knew the controversy international wise surrounding it. That means that this series also did poorly on the Korean website with Korean fans being upset as well. I think it’s very ignorant and low brain to think that this is only “westerners trying to control everyone” and I think it’s also disrespectful to her and her team thinking that she cannot give these characters redemption; nor the story and that the only way she can give redemption is through “the Western’s say-so” like she does not have a good penmanship. Do not disrespect the Black and indigenous community as well as this author, with this cop out all because you cannot get an improper race play western series.
