A bunch of executives hate you just because you're good and you dont want to get promoted? I would've done it just to spite them like, "look, now I'm here, what are you going to do". Coz he was in a position HE wanted. The company was ready to promote him but he chose not to. Despite not being promoted, his opinions matter pretty highly. Enough that executives are wary of him. He likes the job. He delivers and rakes in the money for the company. It's actually senseless to move to somewhere else coz, despite his success now, he's probably not gonna be receiving the same incentives he has if he left to work for someone else.
Plus, with his success rate, only a typical boss with an inferiority complex would ever fire him. Thankfully, the higher ups are smart enough to make sure he stays.
