Yes, like it could have being a nice story. It could have had some serious aspects, trauma even very dark elements, like it already has. But since the beginning that couple was doomed to be like one of the rest. I actually liked Never understand and it's writing. Not the spin off. But the main story was well done. Characters are flawed, there were situations that didn't sit well with me but the author didn't sugarcoated (too much) them like in this story. It could have been worse but there was a story packed of different themes and one kinda could see various perspectives.
In here, yeah, it does have a lot things but the sexually aspects weight heavily because of the omegaverse theme... not an excuse but many omegaverse relays in sex scenes to one: popularity, people enjoy those scenes and two: they wrongly think sex is the path to love. More like rape is the path for attraction for many stories. So author really is doing their best to make Suah appealing to that group of people because that character, with all he had done and his personality, belongs in a thriller. Not in something close to a romantic slice of life lol
And it's ok to like slop porn stories, not thinking too deep about them, police them or not. One can like those characters because whatever reasons but one can't say that the man did not pressured Juhyeok a lot of times, did not do wrong things to him, the coercive (rape) sex scene that later mutated into another 'he said no but he liked it at the end'.
And because of that, the emotional development like you mentioned, comes after they started the sexual part in their exchange of 'goods' relationship but of course they use the trope of chilhood friends that were each other crushes to soften whatever acts of selfishness they did in the past and they will do in the future with the excuse that 'but they liked each other' or 'he acted like that because he cares and wanted to protect them'.
