His jinx is not mostly sex. Honestly? It's his general response to trauma and setbacks. He just needs proper sleep and less nightmares and sex kind of provided him that. It tires him out to sleep and honestly? Who even thinks properly during sex? That explains the nightmares. Also he drinks milk in his routine that's kind of reminding him where he started and why he can't afford to lose which explains the child version of him holding milk as a panel for flashback and him spraying cologne on him after showering just to remind himself he's now accomplished to even stink. He now had privileges. I think a healthy relationship with someone could alleviate the need for his past haunting him to calm down.
ALSO! The story ain't shit. It's honestly so human when a character like Jaekyung is complex. It reveals what other people goes through and how it shaped them. He's not a good green flag top that y'all are looking for. He's toxic alright but the point of this arc is him chasing to get to the positive side of being human and not just chasing Dan. I place my bet on Dan fixing him without doing it directly. Like literally Dan came from being the good guy until he ended up back to being alcoholic and a mess after Jaekyung. Jaekyung will somehow change his ways, realized he turned Dan like that when he himself remembered he came from a difficult situation, became the same alcoholic, a smoker, and was in poor financial situation. Yeah pretty much they'll fix it themselves but I expect Jaekyung to do more and try to fix his mess. All chips in.
IT IS LITERALLY HARD IF THE MOTHER ABANDONED HER SON. Honestly? Mother figures are important in a boy's development as they grew up. Mothers mostly take on the role of teaching their sons how to express things emotionally and how to handle it because not many fathers do it. They also teach basic etiquettes and proper manners around people and now that he's completely not showered with such love and attention of a mother, it isn't surprising he acts that way. Now that his grandma (his coach's mother) is gone, it's hard to keep him in check I mean even the coach in this chapter kept bringing her up and it took an effect to Jaekyung but with Dan's grandma? He obeys and even does things for her when it shouldn't concern him. That's how it is.
Now let's go back to how he felt attached to Kim Dan and fell in love. Kim Dan is caring and he's literally a doctor. He loves his grandma so much and Jaekyung can relate to that. He also tends to the elderly now. Jaekyung may have took in Kim Dan because of his looks at first and he can discard him anytime like his other flings but with Kim Dan's background, his family situation, and his grandma? Jaekyung gets it. He helped him but of course didn't let Dan cross some boundaries because Dan's situation won't improve at all if he's dependent on him and didn't learn how to get his life going himself.
Remember when Kim Dan worked hard to buy Jaekyung an expensive gift? Notice how it kinda resembles what Jaekyung basically did for his mom? He earned money restlessly to try and get her back only for it to be so pointless because she now has everything. That's how it feels. Dan worked hard to give him an expensive gift when he can get lots of it. Jaekyung worked hard to give his mother a comfortable life so they could be back together as a family but turns out, she built another family with someone else. He saw that act as pointless but we're all aware that acting that way isn't necessary at all. He didn't have to toss it but that's how he felt when he was in a similar situation and he just responded like that and never thought of it until Dan disappeared. That's his mistake but hey it does created a depth to his character.
Jaekyung has a complicated toxic personality and a redflag but that doesn't mean he's poorly written. Y'all shush. What makes his character well written is the way he's very much human.
Ok I don't just love him for his looks but dude I analyze characters a bit too much lmao XD. Anyways I can assume he has loneliness or been in several failures or suffered through bullying back then. We never heard anything about his family and his enemy seemed to be his past bully. He definitely has attachment issues too. He cannot express his feelings appropriately at all and it may stem from negligence or absence of parental figures(?). Anyways when he was drunk, I think that's his true nature. He's caring and considerate in that state and he avoids alcohol not because he hates it or he's getting drunk fast but because he has something to hide. I need his backstory ASAP cause I'm invested asf cause I wouldn't write all of this at 1 am lmao. Anyways that doesn't justify his actions but I'm oddly attached to toxic and complicated characters so yeah(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
I agree! I really like what you said about Jaekyung's true nature when he is drunk :) I was just discussing this very thing with someone on another site a few days ago. I said:
Jaekyung is such a grump lol. Even when he was drunk, he showed his grumpy nature when Dan kissed his ear People talk about an "honest drunk." If this is true, then Jaekyung is naturally considerate, communicative, patient, affectionate (it was so cute when he nuzzled Dan's cheek ), grumpy, sulky, and passionate!

Should've completed the whole seggs scene cause what am I supposed to do with my brick? Slam it to the window?
