this is known as the "limbo" where it is technically peaceful but all residents live in constant longing to go to heaven and see god. in the context of this story, of course, it represents jiho's chronic desire for death yet his inability to reach it. the metaphor is cleverly established and fits well considering the brief mention of catholicism a few lines earlier. it's always interesting to see external works being alluded to in manhwa, no matter how well known.

also might just be me overanalyzing things i noticed how when jiho kneeled before yeong and started kissing his feet i got reminded of jesus washing judas's feet despite knowing he'd betray him.
