i heard the cdrama adaptation was "good", but i didn't watch it because xia da didn't have the rights to her creation....but hearing she won finally, looking forward to the story's continuation one day~
That's surprising because I kept seeing praise whenever I ran into reviews and discussions about the drama. But again, the drama was created when Xia Da couldn't have any say on her creation so it's funny to me how fans of the series were supposedly all fine with it. As for Dilraba, I though it was odd that she was casted because I thought Chang Ge was supposed to look more Han chinese than Uygher.
If you gonna watch it because you liked chang ge xing manhua, dont. They deviated from a lot of important stuffs especially surrounding chang ge's characters. They removed the plot about her mother being uyghur, put mimi guli in a love triangle with she'er and mujin, which is a DISRESPECT to my poor mimi. They switched up chang ge and Ashina sun's personality, making chang ge dumber and more naive than she is in manhua. AND THEY PUT A FUCKING OC THAT RUINED NOT JUST THE PLOT BUT A CHUNK OF CHANG'GE'S CHARACTER. Li shimin was fucking cheesy too, they made him a girl dad for change and zhao lusi's oc of a character(i love zhao lusi, this is not a shade towards her). I also think Raba is lowkey given like you said she's supposed to look han AND CUZ THEY FUCKASS REMOVED HER UYGHUR MOTHER PLOT ALREADY, still love raba tho.
I kept skipping further to see if it'd get better and I don't think I could have read it all. I feel bad for the leads over how suffocating and depressingly controlled and manipulated their lives are. ngl i was happy when mia pushed the old man but when i skipped forward seeing he still lived and mia was still a total B in the picture; it's suffocating. So I decided not to spend any more time on this.
i just want to say that I just feel so bad for the real mildred. She wanted more agency in her life but couldn't because of patriarchy. And so she played the cards she was dealt, did what society said would lead her to be successful in life and even remarried but was left in such dire circumstances.
As Florence Pugh said as Amy March: As a woman there's no way for me to make my own money, not enough to earn a living or to support my family. And if I had my own money, which I don't, that money would belong to my husband the moment we got married. And if we had children they would be his, not mine, they would be his property; so don't sit there and tell me that marriage isn't an economic proposition because it is it may not be for you [a man] but it most certainly is for me [a woman].
Mildred now and her handling of the situation within the constraints of their society, she's a superwoman.
And just had a revelation while typing my comment re quoting Amy March; I wonder if the author was in any way inspired by little women? Why am I saying this? Well putting it simply,
1. This story centers on four young ladies if we include Mildred. Mildred now was not originally a mother but just a young women who came into the body of a now twice widowed woman who is still young and can be remarried.
2. the setting is generally about women's prospects and societal constraints in both stories. The institution of marriage is pretty much discussed as the only means for women to be secure in this world (with Mildred deftly challenging it for her and her children's sake). In little women, it is generally the same; the four young ladies are finding their way while growing up in a society that is predominantly still of such older mindset.
3. Somewhat out there. Amy was being courted by a man named Fred Vaughn and lowkey similar to Fred Vans lol.
Anyway, i hope this webtoon is completed. I'm interested in how things play out for Amy and Lily. Iris and Milred is pretty obvious at this point. That said, thank you to the person who dropped the novel link.
i read up to c22. i think i'd be willing to check out the rest of the story as a novel as opposed to reading the webtoon. I think the story will progress faster if I do or at least I'll be able to read the novel faster to make it seem like the story is progressing faster compared to the webtoon. Overall, to me, the characters aren't as well defined than they could be when the exposition took as long as it did and that's impacting the story too.
Best father daughter plot. I think the author really did well to maintain the storyline reasonably and the appearances of the characters. My emotions were invested and the tears I had for Claude, Athy and Diana, totally worth it. It's been years since I last touched this story and I didn't finish it ony to come back this time and finish it in barely two day's time. Athy is quite the flawless female lead and I wouldn't mind more adventures here and there to see how she is in the future, how she rules in the future, if the author was willing.
I'm also team Ijekiel. There are cliches for both male leads and neither of them are particularly innovative personalities but for me, Ijekiel and Athy's stories if they become lovers is so cute and sweet. I'm also soft hearted for Ijekial. I like the way he is so steadfast. He stood against his father in his own way early on and it is just unfortunate that he is not as close in proximity nor had the capabilities to be as helpful as Lucas. As for people who perceive him as seemingly cunning, the ways of high society are as they are and i don't consider it a deficit to the character; if anything it is necessary and would not be considered cunning, but wit and cleverness. However, it is clear that Lucas has the advantage and is more likely. In a way it felt cruel to see Ijekial's heart still feeling for her; the extras were satisfying in that I get there could really be a chance somehow but still bittersweet.
Anyway, I wanted to see more Lily and Felix. For Claude and Diana, they're perfect for each other. I love the short extras we got for them and I'm happy they said Diana was scolding Claude when they were together while Claude was unconscious. I love the alternate world of Diana dressed in male clothing as Athy's first dance for her debutante. It's so Diana coded.
If ever, I'd be interested in a drama adaptation.
Van is not it. there is a clear reason why blaine was the one who ended up with her in the main story. also van has had it all. we can say there are different struggles with being a royal but so what, clearly he had a good social support system which is a positive force for development. blaine, despite parents who were emotionally strained and neglectful of him, he grew up to be resourceful, intelligent, well mannered. anyway, the thing that also rubs me wrong about the side story is how ver is reduced to an woman of inaction. Yes it's messy and rushed but basically with van, she's nearly damsel in distress reduced.

Recently had a feeling of wanting to read a story where it's childhood friends like this and decided to reread kodocha. it's so nostalgic rereading it~ I know that shit goes down but right now i'm at the beginning so I'm feeling a blissfulness returning to this series and the whole childhood relationship of it all with Sana and Hayama connecting. it's cute how Hayama is so sure of his feelings towards Sana too.
