No fr everyone’s forgotten the art of slowburn, story building, and tension rising..it makes the wait so worth it and exciting when something happens because it’s all been building up. And we’re only like..thirteen chapters in
i had low expectations for something titled ‘the king of home dating’ but omg this is AMAZING. the pacing is perfect, the character arcs make sense & the characters fluctuate and act in ways that fit with everything that’s established about who they are and their motives, and the story has so many complex relationships without feeling too bogged down. ch41 tied everything together so subtly yet perfectly… jooyeong lashing out & jeonghan saying i love u…. showing not telling how jeonghan has matured while jooyeong is stuck in the past…. one thing a lot of bls drop the ball on is building multiple (aka mc and ml) well developed narratives simultaneously and this author does it perfectly. sooo excited for the next season, im so impressed so far~~~~~

im sorry this pissed me off so bad. woojung is a terrible character and it’s because he’s badly written. he takes in jiho out of the supposed kindness of his heart, is super patient w him, gives him space, picks up on the subtle hints that he went thru severe abuse/trauma, blah blah blah the point is, for the first 20 chapters the author is VERY CLEARLY illustrating the sort of altruistic character woojung is. that’s why it doesn’t make sense that he’d suddenly accept jihos advances. the age part is hilariously stupid (seriously? you act all moral that hes a minor and then the second he turns 18 you have no second thoughts? give me a break), but worse than that is the fact he totally has some sort of idea of what jiho went through, ie using his body/sex in a transactional manner AS A MINOR, yet somehow he doesn’t put two and two together that jiho making advances on him is a side effect of that? is he that much of a predatory dumbass or just badly written? by the way this is going, im inclined to think the latter. btw i don’t care about age gap i don’t think it’s taboo but rather can be very interesting, its just the way this is written is not consistent which is what pisses me off. if your story is solely about two characters and one of them is this badly written, it’s hard to take your writing seriously. the worst part is im going to keep reading to see if this shit could possibly be redeemed. either way this was a huge waste of time. projection mogs

On ur mind much?) — anyways, badly written or not, it’s all subjective, you can have ur opinion but man ur so hateful, just leave fr if you think it’s so terrible, no need to hate on the people that made it, go read smth else. Or maybe u finished it and realized that characters aren’t as simple as being nice or mean, they have other reasons that u find out as you keep reading — to have such a black and white view of the characters at the beginning of the story is your own fault as a reader.

also, idk where you got the idea that jiho had been using his body/sex for transactions as a minor— he only pick pocketed, was beat up by his drunk dad, abandoned by his montrer, ran away from home and lived in an abusive facility but he never sold his body before he met woojung. And how is woojing badly written? As you find out later, he didn’t take in jiho out of the kindness of his heart— he was bored with life and made the spontaneous decision to take him in. Was he really portrayed as super kind? He was kinda cold to jiho at the start, aloof, annoying but also dependable. I agree, it’s kinda weird that he, as a prosecutor and upholder of justice, would be so okay with having sex with someone who barely turned 18, but it has been established that he isn’t a fully moral character and has his own flaws. However, they match each other well as flawed characters and help each other be better people. Anyhow, you act like, reading this is absolute torture but guess what bro, it’s mangago and there’s much more “trash” waiting to be read by you!!
this was an overall enjoyable read but the more i reflect on the plot im realizing….. why was the writing so bad the plot lowkey didn’t make any sense and every issue was solved by a convenient deus ex machina. characters aren’t well written either, their actions often make no sense based on what’s initially established TO THE READER several times and have such superficial reasoning/origin solely to drive conflict. idk if im being too critical but the manhwa insists on being taken seriously so i think my qualms are warranted. its just lazy writing. hopefully by the sequel the writer will have improved
and the fact that mc is a top agent? like really ? even i make better agent then him...(jk)

ngl it’s rare to find ppl who read critically in spaces like this. i think a lot of people must subconsciously see bl as an inferior genre because that’s the only thing that explains why they don’t critically consume what they read and defend badly written stories like there’s nothing wrong with having basic storytelling and writing expectations for the bl you read!!!!! im not saying its horrible like i did finish it and i LOVE the sequel, but if we’re critiquing it as a story with themes and character arcs, its just not a good one!!!

jinx is beyoooond bad, it's downright terrible, reminds me of the 'After' franchise, the shittiest story in existence yet with a huge following for some reason... oops, i forgot about painter of the night, so not exactly the shittiest, but has the most low-effort plotline i've ever seen. of course the protagonist is poor and lives on scraps, is manipulated by the male lead and raped and then all these rapists get a redemption arc and they're suddenly absolved of all their past mistakes bffr...
Author trying to justify Jeakung or whatever his name was is the most hilarious part actually like I never read whole thing first 3-4 chapters were enough to turn me off and then I saw recent chapters I was like WOW? Like he got a sad backstory but how the fuck can aan turn into a literal psycho? I mean there are people with sad stories take Kim Dan for example, did he turned like that?
