To be honest, after I reread their explanation, I suppose what they really meant was to distinct between the characters in the manga and the author of the book with his partner (Nanasaki and Ryousuke) in real life. Although I have not found any clarification from Nanasaki-san himself on either X or Facebook, the fact that he still keeps his relationship status and is actively posting on Facebook kinda puts us at ease from the rumors. Until Nanasaki-san has a say in this matter, our assumptions will remain unsolved. However, I do have a strong belief that they are still a power duo, and Nanasaki currently wants to separate between his love life and his business.
From what I understood (from backreading their tweets and other sources), they did have a fight but didn't divorce. The people against nanapy/gay rights (nanapy was running for elections that time) started the divorce rumor as a smear campaign.
