Julg being in love with Caius was well hidden. Back in chapters 76 and 77 - all the way back in 2022! - when we first meet Julg, his motivations are hidden by using flashbacks in a very specific order and using clever wording from Julg’s commentary.
I am not afraid to admit that I mis-read Julg’s motives. I thought he was trying to kill Kouichi to get back at Caius for abandoning Julg and upending his happy life. And I re-read the manga every few months when I have nothing else to read.
This and the last arc have really shown that the author has really learned how to write good story. Everything that has happened in the last 30 chapters has had setup quite literally years ago. This is the best kind of writing.
I re-read this manga a lot - like once every couple of months.
A lot of people in the comments complain about the story taking forever, but good story telling takes a long time. You don’t just set something twist up a couple of chapters in advance and expect it to hit hard.
Ever since the egg arc started the author has been doing some proper storytelling. Time is taken to fully establish the setting while subtly weaving in important details that are now paying off.
At first I also thought the Egg arc it was pointless filler, but then I started noticing some reoccurring patterns and picked up on the a few things she was obviously setting up to payoff later. This is the kind of storytelling I live for regardless of genre.
I know some people are here for size diff sex and hoping Baro gets to get in bed with someone. But this series has grown well beyond needing constant horniness. This has grown into a proper story with some sex scenes as a bonus. I fully recommend re-reading the series from the beginning. You’ll pick up on things now that the story has grown beyond a simple fantasy Yaoi.
Only two ways this can go really.
1. If Odin wins, it’s because he’s the one who’s behind the idea the whole time.
2. If Odin dies, it’s because Odin’s plan requires him to die for it to work.
Note I didn’t say, “If Kintoki wins”. Kintoki doesn’t have to win for the second thing to happen. Odin can secure a tie and still get what he wants if he has to die for his plans to work.
So putting aside the issues with the Birdmen King… Did Kouichi make the deadline?
I re-read the last few chapters, but I can’t figure out if Kouichi still has a day left, or is it the final hours of the quiz.
Because if Kouichi still has a day left, there’s not going to be much issues of his qualifications. But on the other hand, if it’s in the final hours, I can guess the people who were trying to sabotage the quiz are going to argue that Kouichi hatched it too late - as it was probably after the date ticked over.
