When you're learning about something new in school, it takes time to process it and understand especially when you're not originally used to that concept and ESPECIALLY if the concept involves negative connotations. It's not a topic that you can just label as homophobic and be done with it. That's also being a coward and running away from the problem

This is still a bit different from simply learning a new school subject too though, the root of the problem is him having built his own expectations of his brother and resigning himself to thay reality long ago . Which is also 80% of the reason homophobia exists ngl, the other 20% being the cherry on top of caring what other people think. Ofc for some people those factors could even be 50/50. It's not like it is something that simply takes repeated exposure to it to get used to it, they have to come to an understanding of the reality of the situation and further gain compassion and grow as a person overall to recognize it's not as big a deal as they thought ╮(￣▽￣)╭

I agree with Mar and Inkk, insulting the brother because he doesn't understand yet, is a bit cruel. He's just a kid and not only has his perspective on his brother turned upside down, he's Japanese. Give him some more time before you start being mean to him. He's just a baby :(

It's true tho. People who didn't come from a conservative country maybe don't really know about this. Sometimes people just... Idk ignorant to that matters. Or maybe their perspective is bad cause framing of the media in a conservative country is woah... I can't even describe it.


It's like even the older or younger generation didn't even knew what homophobic is.. Like sometimes they kinda don't care abt queer ppl in general some of them think, "well as long as they don't hurt me" or "well as long as my family aren't guy like them" like... some of em didn't even think about hurting queer ppl, they just straight up like a blank paper with very little knowledge abt this issues because that's not the main problems in their country like there are maaaany problems happen in their country (for example japan) so about this queer matter, is like the least think they would discuss in every day life or maybe not at all. Like yes they have nichome (one of the biggest gay district in japan) and stuffs, but some of em still pretty conservative whatever the reason is..

Yeah it all comes back to ignorance whether they are aware that there's a term for being very outwardly demanding about wanting someone to fit into their box like "homophobia" or not. At most they recognize it as discrimination for being different. Again, people have so little control over many things in life and that's when all the human constructed social rules come into play. Majority lean a certain way so that becomes the norm and they can fit into it despite the issues surrounding them and feel a sense of control through that, but in reality a lot of issues come back to said social rules, they also feed into each other and result in an unequal social construct of shaming things without actually knowing much about it. "Oh you're a homo? Ok just dont associate much with me because I want to still fit in enough to be considered part of the pack and the majority clearly don't relate." "Well they aren't my son so whatever." I wouldn't call them a blank page. Instead, it's more like a document page with all of the boxes already filled in from top to bottom, side to side. If you try to add certain things you would have to shift around meanings behind the words or completely reconstruct boxes and sentences in order for it to make sense. When people's core beliefs are challenged, they are far more likely to push it away and avoid it than to rethink their justification for being who they see themselves as. "You should shave your legs because it is simply hygiene." "You should keep your hair short because you're a man." Blah blah blah Sexuality is such a big deal compared to more simple gender assigned things though, so you could actually be physically harmed over it. Loved ones that are still stuck in such a mold will immediately gravitate towards fear. [How could we possibly survive without being included in a community that offers all these things?] That's something they clearly are not prepared for. The potential to be truly alone. So instead, they make it so that person is the one that feels truly alone for it and the cycle continues. It hasn't been until more recent years that a large enough community exists of individuals that don't fit that mold have voiced their thoughts and such.


Side note: Pope francis has even stated he is against criminalization of homosexuality and though within the church any sexual acts outside of marriage (which can only be a heterosexual couple) are sins, there's no reason to hold ill will toward them outside of that. So he wouldn't care if 2 gay men got married or whatever, after all any consequences of their sins are to be judged by god after death, not by man lmao. He found a way to express his tolerance. He was never a blank page but he managed to find a way to fit more words on it without changing any boxes or meanings on it. who's to say what he would think if he hadn't become a priest and one day had a kid who turned out to be gay. Maybe it'd be similar and he'd end up havi g the "hell" talk with them. "So, you're aware fo consequences, yes?" "Yes..." "And you won't abstain from acting out your sexuality?" "It would prpbably be worse than hell father" "Nothing is worse than hell" "Not even the most hainous event in our history, father?" Like fr what would a gay person do to deserve something so bad. Having consensual sex ? ? ?

I think it's kinda interesting to me cause like how different the western media or any other countries talk abt this matter. It's either you know well about this or you just don't really know about this cause it's not even a "thing" for their discussion. For example like my country or even some of southeast asia in general, as i said before lgbtq is like the least issues they can talk about cause it's not their main concern. Some of them have the religions that stated that they don't support some sex couple, and i always respect any other religions and people belief's. I'm a Christian myself but Christian has a loooot of different denomination, from my denomination we always told to love each other, like that's the whole concept of being a religious person, because we are always equal as a human. i don't really know so i can't say much about any other belief or religion i only know a little (but because i come from a country that has at least 5-6 different religions) at least i know that all those religions always thought us to love each other human being.

I think what makes it different is the country itself. How media framing it, their everyday topic in social media, and etc. For example maybe if u ask some random person in my country, "what's your pronounce?" Or "how many genders are there?" They gonna be like, "??????" Meanwhile in western media this is such a big big issue.

And i think the problem is some of ppl mostly apply their own standard from their country and their own beliefs to a person or people that come from a totaly different country, background that even have a totally different ideology and a totally different beliefs. And that's where the logic started to make me kinda confused.. Like it's okay if a person want to learn to a different perspective but to actually push your own agenda to any other other people and force them... is just so..... ╮(￣▽￣)╭

Yeah news and such is definitely a big part of it, how all those connotations get spread fast. It might seem like western countries have it all together, but the US for example is as large as multiple other countries put together. There are various areas where it is also the last thing they care to talk about even if they don't have a multitude of real issues to worry about. I mean anything is hardly a real excuse for projecting things onto others based on things out of our control, but it happens. Sure it may be one of the last things to talk about but it is more because it's such a small population compared to the majority and countries dealing with more dangerous things, like mexico, can be far behind. There have been some gay celebrities in Mexico but a lot of parts in Mexico are still very traditional or just not as exposed to it much. Heck one of my sister's bf's uncle killed himself after finding out his son was gay... Arguably, that's a worse cultural mindset to lean towards than simply having terrible issues around you that the last thing you consider if is someone can be gay. Shit happens #－.－)

Right and of it's the "hunting is for men" and "gathering is for women" type of tribe (which i believe it is, considering she had to get apples), then the women would spend a considerable amount of time in the sun gathering enough fruits, nuts, etc for all the members of the tribe to eat and would have some modicum of a tan. right, like even I don't go out that much but just from walking to my uni it's enough to give me a strong tan, it's hard to believe that they're pale as hell when they're supposed to be natives
