Right but that’s not what I am talking about: usually most people who are obsessed with beauty - whether they are already attractive or not - consider plastic surgery at some point (except for the anti-plastic surgery people of course). Because basically, you tend to never be satisfied and to always want to be *better*. Especially in your thirties, lotion don’t do the trick anymore so at that point Botox is a really common solution.

i actually didn't think about it that much, but it does make sense. usually in manga the mc becomes good looking after having proper skincare or weight loss, but in real life, people still are not satisfied with themselves and opt for plastic surgery. it is ironic lol

This topic reminds me of a co-worker who had plastic surgery done (rhinoplasty)-- he found it cheaper to fly to Korea and get it done there than in Japan. He also kinda got shamed for it when he got back which made him doubt and regret the procedure for a while. Thankfully, he's ok now. But yeah from my experience, older women (mothers of my students lmao) were the ones who tended to have any procedures done, and it was to hide their age lol

It’s true that there are more plastic surgery among women and it seems that it is more shamed when it comes to men. Yet if a guy is obsessed about his looks and already has a long beauty routine, it’s likely that he will think about plastic surgery at some point.
Anyway this type of guy are not really common in the first place but it’s still surprising to see beauty-related webtoons or mangas acting like plastic surgery doesn’t exist x’D

Ikr. Especially most of the korean webtoons, the FL becomes very pretty after only losing weight and putting on some make up blablabla. Very typical story plot but not realistic.

yeah so true, though not surprising as it's still pretty taboo to admitting you have surgery even in Korea ie. it's something to be 'hidden away' and not spoken of. Oftentimes these manhwa are about ridiculously attractive people though (as a lot of media is literally anywhere) so I suppose it just doesn't fit the narrative of a lot of stories. Tbh they never talk about double eyelids or high nose bridges in general in webtoons unless it's specifically about appearances eg. True Beauty. I guess it doesn't exist in the realm of 2d characters lol they're just implied as 'attractive' and get on with the main story

There's a manhwa I'm reading called Ang Ang where the MC talks about wanting plastic surgery because he thinks he looks too masculine. I remember in True Beauty she also wants surgery. That's probably the only ones I've seen mention it recently

True! It’s still surprising to me that even among (beautiful) secondary characters you can’t find some that attained their beauty with plastic surgery, or at least without being portrayed negatively for it. Both False Memories and Paid have one secondary character that has some surgery done and it’s presented negatively: each did it bcz they are jealous of their brother aparantly (the brother being pink haired ML in False Memories and blond Mc in Paid). And they are both « villains » btw. Something worth noting is that I see no one in the comments simping for the brother from Paid who is drawn as handsome: yes he is a bad guy but usually that doesn’t prevent people from simping as we all know with POTN and all the famous BL lol. It’s as if people loose all their capacity to be attracted to when they know a beauty is not attained naturally. But you can say I might read too much into it, after all I am just making theory right now.

In this webtoon http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/i_m_a_middle_schooler_becoming_the_demon_lord/, there is a female character who has the double eyelids surgery done (And I think she is still a middle or high schooler). It’s a bit funny bcz aparantly she goes from « ugly to pretty » just thanks to that. I mean eyelids surgery doesn’t change your entire face as far as I know, sounds like magic to me xD
(At least she is not a negative character lol) But you are right to say that in the webtoon universe concepts of double eyelids and high nose bridge seem non existent (likely bcz it’s a 2D world)
